We stayed at the Hotel Sheldon 1/27/12 and 1/28/12. This hotel is all about location. We have 3 and 4 year old boys, so this is not the place for us. The rooms are very small and there is a very small TV. I believe it's an old school 19 inch. It's very easy for children to get bored in such a small room. On top of that, the windows are large and open, and have no screens. The first thing my kids wanted to do was hang out the window, which we ended up tying closed with a plastic bag. The furnishings are shabby, our shower wouldn't turn off, and the whole hotel exudes a kind of neglected vibe. I asked for a balcony, but was told there was only 1 room with a balcony and it was booked 6 months out.
Now onto the positive. The location is amazing. The view out of our window of death is amazing. You can sit in your room and watch the people on the boardwalk or stare at the Gulf of Mexico. The boardwalk is the only thing between you and the beach. There are restaurants and bars within walking distance, so you could park your car in the inconvenient parking and walk everywhere. The names of the rooms don't really seem to mean anything, we stayed in the Jane Russell room, and it looked like all the others. The room was shabby, but smelled clean and fresh. The sheets were clean, the beds comfortable. The staff were'nt overly friendly, or unfriendly. They seemed pretty much indifferent. Like us being there really didn't have much to do with them. But we hung the do not disturb sign on our door and the maid dropped clean towels, coffee, etc outside our door anyway. Very considerate, I thought. The WiFi is easy to access, the TV has quite a few channels.
Overall, I would stay there again with my husband or a friend, but never with children again.
