“Almost ....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I have visited several hotels in the area. This hotel could be the best in the area but still has a long way yet. The hotel towels are horrible. They do not look clean. Please buy new towels. The tub looks old and dirty. The room looks great, is renewed but when you get to the bathroom all the good imprension completely vanishes. The staff is just one of the best. They are very attentive. The hotel smells old but it is understood it is an old and beautiful hotel and that does not bother me. Please friends do something with the towels and the bathroom. That's what it takes to be one of the best options in gainesville florida. Success is price and cleanliness. I am very picky person and I'll return when I see pictures of the bathrooms.

Dear Angelina F, Thank you for your kind words and recognition of our staff and their attentive service. Your comments have been duly noted and addressed. We have been working with our laundry service and identified the problem and I believe you will be properly impressed the next time you use the towels they are softer, fluffier and much whiter. Additionally, our remodel has been fully approved so the next time you stay with us I am confident we will exceed all of your expectations. We look forward to your return. Please let me know when next you plan to visit and I will personally make sure you get one of the first remodeled rooms.

“Beware”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Normally I have been very satisfied by the Fairfield Brand. But this hotel is a rehab and though they put in all the right furntiure and colors for the renovation, it's inherent original design left me uneasy. Of particular concern are the outdoor hallways and it's location next to a loud six lane freeway. It felt unsafe and the outdoor hallways were dirty. I had a special rate when staying here, but regretted not paying $20 more to be somewhere else.

TV reception was also fuzzy on all channels, but wireless worked well.

Room Tip: Request a room on the backside away from the freeway.

Dear bobklaus, Please let me set your mind and everyone else’s mind at ease. We are indeed NOT a rehab, we are in fact an Original Fairfield Inn built nearly 30 years ago. One of the original “Nifty Fifty” designed by Marriott. I do concur, we are closer to the highway than we were when we were built but the highway has tripled in size and traffic over the last 3 decades. Thank you for bringing the TV reception issue to our attention, I have had my maintenance director investigate the problem and it has been fixed. JWM – GM - GNVFI

“What a Disappointment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I see Marriott in the name and expect higher quality. Hotel is not that easy to find. Was quoted $99 for the room but had a coupon from the rest area which got it down to $70. The room was very small. Two people would have trouble walking past each other between the bed and the dresser. In the bathroom, your elbow hits the wall on one side of the commode and the shower curtain on the other. My usual lodging chain did not have rooms. I would have stayed there. I know what I'm getting when I check in there.

Dear DTPTennessee, I am sorry you found your room less than expected. I can assure you that when we were built nearly 30 years ago we were considered cutting edge. Times, expectations and as you noted rates have changed. I am happy to announce that we are in the final planning stages of an extensive remodel so the next time you find yourself in need of accommodations in the area, if you will contact me personally I will make sure you are upgraded to one of our remodeled rooms. Respectfully yours JWM - GM - GNVIF

“exceeded expectations, a bargain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

The location is easily accessible and only a couple of minutes drive from I-75. Lots of nearby restaurants (we chose Napolitano's which was really good). The hotel is not new, but is very well maintained. the lobby is not huge, but has several sofas and chairs. Check-in was pleasant and efficient (as was check-out the next morning).

The room was compact but large enough for comfort and getting around the King bed, which was very comfortable with lots of pillows and crisp sheets. The decor was not fancy, but a nice pastel yellow paint(seemed to be fairly recently done) and clean, nicely patterned broadloom, complimented by a colourful bed throw and a couple of generic paintings, made the somewhat smallish room very pleasant. The only negative was the very small bathroom (toilet and tub) - although the shower had excellent water pressure.

The complimentary breakfast was just great. Good cereal selection, OJ, hard boiled egg, cream cheese and assorted jams for the bagels, make-your-own waffles (which we passed up) and 2 kinds of fruit cups which were great. They also offered 2 kinds of "Jimmy Dean Breakfast Sandwiches" (think Egg McMuffins on a biscuit). I tried one but found it not to my liking, but it was no problem since there was so much other variety to choose.

All this for only $54 + tax (senior rate) - a fantastic deal. We'll remember this hotel for our next trip to Florida.

“Very Good hotel for Inexpensive Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

My best piece of advice.......book on the internet as the rate is $15 cheaper than regular rate.

It's not the fanciest place in town, but for a traveler, it's got the right price, it's clean, it's quiet, a good location (right off Interstate) and the staff is friendly. (Big thank you to Dan at the front desk for holding a room for us that I couldn't get booked on my smart phone on the way back from Key West).

Room Tip: back side of hotel is best because it's away from the highway

Dear “TXDaycationer”

Thank you for your kind words about my staff. I am very proud of them and the attentive way they treat our guests. I concur about the internet rate with a small stipulation that everyone needs to remember, an advance purchase rate while usually lower allows NO changes and no refunds. Otherwise for travelers like yourself it is a very intelligent choice.

Thank you once again for choosing our hotel and we look forward to seeing you the next time you pass through Gainesville.

Respectfully yours, JWM, GM, GNVFI
