“Decent stay, great location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

I spent one night in the Residence Inn in Gainesville while in town for a UF graduation. The location of the hotel was great - it is very close to UF, easy to get to from I-75, and away from all the traffic of the Archer Rd/I-75 area. I stayed in a one-bedroom suite with a pullout sofa. The queen bed was comfortable. My daughter slept on the pullout, and she said it was pretty uncomfortable. The kitchen, the bedroom, and the living area were all very clean. The breakfast was average - definitely not something to write home about. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. I do feel that the property could have better outside lighting at night. Overall, it was a very decent stay.

“A good choice for long term stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

I've stayed here for 2 weeks (doing research at the university). At first, I was a little afraid that it is old, but it looks good, even if it is 25 years old (probably recently remodeled). Even if it is at the edge of the town, the location was ok, on 13th street which goes directly to campus (low traffic). It is not close to the major supermarkets.
The studio is perfect for long term stay, with a bedroom with a large bed and a tv, plus a sofa in the living room (and another tv). The kitchenette has everything you need, a fridge, large stove, microwave, even a dishwasher machine! Internet worked just fine, even if sometime (especially in the evening) was a little bit slow. The staff was friendly and helpful.
I recommend this, it is a good choice (price/local conditions).

“Staff here is like family, welcoming and warm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

We spent 4 nights here in a two bedroom loft unit. There was a bit of deferred maintenance evident throughout the property, but it was clean and comfortable and everything was in good working order. The shining star of this facility, though, is its staff. Many of the employees have worked here for a long, long time and they give the place a homey feeling that is uncommonly welcome. The front desk staff was extraordinarily helpful, the housekeepers were chipper and responsive, the folks who served food and drinks in the lobby were encouraging and upbeat, and together they all made our stay wonderful. We loved the quiet location surrounded by big trees and a pond with wading birds.

Room Tip: Although the road is not loud, rooms farther back in the property off the road are very, very quiet.

“Very run down, poor security, time for a remodel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

I travel a lot in my job and this hotel is an extremely old Residence Inn and it shows it. Being a college town I guess Marriott has a captive guest list so they don't need to update it. The lack of lighting in the parking lots and the distance the buildings are apart make for a very unsafe feeling. It is also located in a very bad area of town. I am a long time Marriott customer and am Gold, this is one old property you should avoid until it is completely redone.

Room Tip: if you must stay here get as close to the front as possible
