My family and I have stayed at the Rush numerous times over the last few years. We found this motel when grandaughter Cherokee had to have open heart surgery at Shands Hospital which is in walking distance. My daughter (Cherokee's mom) is now having to come to Shands for a pacemaker while waiting on a heart transplant. The Rush Lake Motel is not the Hilton and does not try to be the Hilton. The rooms are not state of the art but the people who run it are wonderful. They go out of their way to make sure all your needs are met if it is in there means. I have felt perfectly safe everytime we have stayed so I really don't know why anyone would say they did not fell safe.We were here in 2007 so I do know what the motel was like then. The rooms on the ground floor have small patios outside the sliding glass doors and waist high walls. The sliders have very secure locks on the inside of each door so this isn't a safety issue.

If you are expecting satin sheets and a mint on your pillow this is not that kind of motel. However if you are looking for affordable lodging and a comfortable place to lay your head down the Rush Lake Motel is the place to stay. There rates are very reasonable to start with and if you are in Gainesville because you or a loved one has to be at the hospital they also give a discount on top of the normally low rate.

I had to go to Shands hospital unexpectedly this year and found this little motel right around the corner. Even though it looks older on the outside, it was actually pretty nice. The motel was very quiet and the staff was super friendly! I was very pleased with my stay!! I would recommend this motel to anyone!

I stayed here for the UF v FSU game and iwould not stay there again. It would have been ok when I was 21 and just needed a place to crash, but other than that i could not stay there again. Just and old cheap motel

I stayed at this hotel because of a group rate for an organization meeting I was there to attend and was traveling with my teenage daughter. I was originally impressed with the cheap rate, but in the end got what I paid for. We spent two nights there.

The hotel parking lot was very dark and exterior lighting poor. The rooms had painted cinder block walls and were reminiscent of an old college dorm room. The bathroom definitely showed its age, although was fairly clean. The industrial/office type carpet was stained and the blankets on the beds were frayed and worn. Our room had a sliding glass door on the back which made me feel unsafe. When asked to be moved to a second floor room, I was told the hotel was completely booked, although the parking lot was mostly empty!

The other strange thing is this is the only hotel where I have ever had to get the TV remote control from the check-in clerk. I felt so unsafe with my daughter at this hotel, that I called every other hotel in town to try to move somewhere else -- no matter what the cost. Unfortunately, it was Daytona 500 weekend and all other hotels in town were booked.

I finally convinced my daughter (and myself) to consider that if we were in post-hurricane conditions, we would be grateful to have a roof over our heads and a place to sleep. Thankfully, our two night stay went quickly and we were glad to return home after our meeting.
