My father was having surgery at Shands and we stayed here because it was advertised as being within walking distance to the hospital. It was indeed very close to the hospital but a stay here could put you there. It was the worse room we have ever stayed in. We had reservations for two nights but only stayed one night. One night was more than we could stomach. I'm SO glad I had a can of disinfectant with me. The carpets were so stained we put newspaper down to walk on. The beds were so bad that you sunk into the middle. And I mean sunk. It was hard to get out of the bed once you sunk. These beds had to be the original. I wouldn't let a dog stay here.

The property was clean and rooms are average, the price very reasonable. This is an older hotel so I did not expect the best. The manager is rude and unprofessional, but my biggest complaint is this motel claims to deal with patients and families from 2 area hospitals (both within walking distance). While staying there I found out one of the maintenance people was from work release and is allowed to go in rooms unsupervised. I was even more shocked to find out they keep people just out of prison/jail living on the property, these people stay in rooms by the pool. This is not a place where families should bring children, although most of the staff is friendly I do not consider this a family environment.

I would never stay in this place. I went there for a Dr. Appt for my child and when I got there it was well kept on the outside so, I went ahead and checked in the staff was rude but I figured maybe they was having a bad day. Then when I got to the room there was someone next door that lived in the motel and was not nice to look at. Once inside it felt dirty and there was urine in the toilet and black stuff in the tub I got my stuff and walked right back out. The person next door was in their doorway smoking a cig like they was cool it just gave my the chills. I got my money back and went near the interstate and it was even cheaper and much more friendly and cleaner.

My family and I have stayed at the Rush numerous times over the last few years. We found this motel when grandaughter Cherokee had to have open heart surgery at Shands Hospital which is in walking distance. My daughter (Cherokee's mom) is now having to come to Shands for a pacemaker while waiting on a heart transplant. The Rush Lake Motel is not the Hilton and does not try to be the Hilton. The rooms are not state of the art but the people who run it are wonderful. They go out of their way to make sure all your needs are met if it is in there means. I have felt perfectly safe everytime we have stayed so I really don't know why anyone would say they did not fell safe.We were here in 2007 so I do know what the motel was like then. The rooms on the ground floor have small patios outside the sliding glass doors and waist high walls. The sliders have very secure locks on the inside of each door so this isn't a safety issue.

If you are expecting satin sheets and a mint on your pillow this is not that kind of motel. However if you are looking for affordable lodging and a comfortable place to lay your head down the Rush Lake Motel is the place to stay. There rates are very reasonable to start with and if you are in Gainesville because you or a loved one has to be at the hospital they also give a discount on top of the normally low rate.
