Like most Homewood Suites, Gainesville has a very appealing exterior but once inside, things change. While the desk staff was courteous and friendly, the physical property leaves much to be desired. The lobby carpet was extremely soiled and torn in some areas and the hall carpet to the rooms as also badly soiled. The room, while clean, was dreary and very dated and much smaller than other similar facilities. Being weary after three days on the road, we opted for the complementary single entrée dinner which was mediocre. The breakfast buffet had a minimum number of offerings. Finally, the rate for this facility was quite a bit higher that our previous two nights at other much more appealing Hilton facilities. I did not follow my usual Trip Advisor practice of going for the highest rated and that was a mistake. I would not book this facility again.

Stayed for 3 nights, liked the location, very comfortable and as in all Homewood Suites, decent 'free' breakfast with 'free' dinner (didn't take advantage of). Amenities are fine, but like "mamamooch" says, they need to pay closer attention to details. Hallway carpeting is worn on the 1st floor and bunching up a little, the mat in the elevator could use cleaning and replacment. Upon entering, room looks very nice, however, when digging in, there were carpet stains, kitchen floor was sticky (I walk around barefoot). The shower was sparkling, but when I stepped inside, the weepholes on the bottom had mold/mildew. Housekeeping/Manager walk-throughs are not being done thoroughly? They should spot these things IF they actually inspect more closely. Yes, I used to work in the hotel business.
I would still stay there again as it was nice enough and a good location to UF, downtown, etc. I would hope the franchise owner has scheduled updating.

I was working at the University of Florida in Gainesville for a few days in December of 2011 and stayed three nights at the Homewood Suites Gainesville. Having stayed at a Homewood Suites once before where I had a fabulous experience, I had high expectations. Though those expectations weren't quite met, it was still a nice place to stay.

I appreciated many aspects of my stay. The staff at the front desk, the breakfast staff, and the cleaning staff were all friendly and helpful. The bathroom was very spacious and well-appointed (as I much prefer a shower with a door, rather than standing in a tub fighting with a shower curtain). The bed was extremely comfortable. The kitchen (full fridge, microwave, sink, dishwasher) was nice, though I hardly used it. The parking was plentiful. The complimentary wireless internet was extremely helpful (if a bit slow at times). The complimentary newspaper each morning was nice. Proximity to dozens of nearby restaurants was convenient. And the complimentary breakfast buffet was decent (though not a nice as some others that I've encountered recently).

There were a few disappointments. The TV was small and old-school (and the remote control was only partially functional). The room orientation was odd, as it was long and narrow (which made the TV far away from the bed and couch). The absence of hot chocolate at the hot beverage station was disappointing, and when they finally had hot chocolate on the last morning, the "hot water" was ice cold. Finally, I was amazed how loud it sounded in my room it was whenever another door down the hall was opened and closed. I sleep like a hibernating bear, and I was startled awake several times by the hallway noise.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Homewood Suites in Gainesville. A few things were less than spectacular, but I would happily return to this hotel if I ever come back to Gainesville.

Love Homewood Suites, as a rule. This property is well-appointed and a good, comfortable suite hotel. However, I have stayed here in the past and commented on housekeeping issues, lack of toiletries, soap, supplies being left in the room. As another reviewer recently mentioned, "it is the details that make the difference". And my recent stay showed that those details are still not attended to.

I am surprised that management has not commented on any of the reviews that they "are thankful for the feedback" or that they "will look into it", as I'm not the only guest who has commented on cust. service and lack of supplies left in the room. I would like to stay here again next April, as your ammenities and location are great, but the other reviewer is correct: "it is the details that make the difference". I hope management pays attention, perhaps as a New Years resolution?!
