“Nothing Grand about this place”

Pros: Bed was comfortable and the central heat/air worked great . CONS: Most everything else! Horrible location if you want any idea of peace and quiet. My colleagues were in a room 15 feet from a concrete plant. They get started about 5:30 in the morning. My first room on the first floor had windows that wouldn't and couldn't be secured. Opened right into the parking lot. My second room was 20 feet from the road and across the street from my colleagues. I could hear the radios from the cars stopped at the red light. Not to mention every motorcycle and deisel engine within blocks! The half eaten chicken that was left in the refrigerator was a bonus and the TV remote for the 15 year old TV didn't work. The batteries were corroded inside. Smelled like cigarette smoke too. The made to order breakfast was a continental breakfast. Don't get fooled. Do yourself a favor and look for a reputable hotel.

“Misleading Website”

We decided to stay at Cayo Grande while visiting family in Fort Walton Beach. It was close to family's home and their website looked pretty decent.

We drove up to the Cayo Grande and it is on an extremely busy and noisy intersection. The complex is split in half by one of these busy streets. At night the area is filled with sketchy characters. While checking in the desk clerk even made a comment that they rent "by the hour." In addition, many of their units are being rented out as apartments.

We entered our 1 bedroom suite and it was basically an apartment. It was roomy enough. However it smelled musty and like stale cigarette smoke. The furniture was old and scratched cracked and broken. I almost left then and there, however by renting through a website we would get no refund. Our room was across the street from the main buildings and pools.

The bed fortunately was comfortable. The breakfast was decent in the cafe.

By no means is this a hotel to go and relax at as their website would lead you to believe. I spent as little time as possible there.

For the price of these rooms I wish I would have stayed a few miles out and actually been closer to the water for less money. Next time I know and I won't be staying at the Cayo Grande.

“I have high praise for Cayo Grande”

My niece and I traveled to Ft Watlon Beach to be near my sister who was and still is in the hospital there. I had no clue as to what to expect from Cayo Grande as the reviews were not very good. When we first got there we were given a room that smelled of cig smoke so bad I immediatley felt sick. I failed to request a non smoking as I was frantic to get to Florida. We did not get in until midnight and we were very tired. I called the front desk and they told me that they would change us to another room. The only room available at the time was a non smoking 2 bedroom, 2 bath due to the Memorial Day weekend. They gave us that room at the same rate as the first one. No questions asked. We were in a new room within 10 minutes. I did not know how many days I would be there and they changed my check out date twice, no questions asked. They were very helpful in making copies of important documents for me at no charge. Making sure I had internet access each time. I will stay here again and will recommend it as well.

The day that I stayed at Cayo Grande was my wedding night. We were all happy that we was going to be able to hang out in the jacuzzi after a long night and just relax. We went to run the jacuzzi and brown stuff and bugs came out the vents. First thought was, If you know the room hasent been used in awhile why wouldnt you run it before your guest arrived, not to mention we didnt get there until around 10 at night so they had plenty of time. The next thing the maid kept bugging the [--] out of us, at 8am they rang the room and asked us to get up and move our car cause they need to pressure wash the building, "excuse me" we are paying you guys. Why did they need to start there, not to mention we had some of our gifts , which made us have to walk out of our way with extra stuff. Then they need a credit card to hold $50 in case the room was messed up , ok fine but what they fail to mention is that they hold that money for 180 days before it can be released, had they said this i wouldnt have used my debit card i would have used a card i didnt really care about. my wedding was nice but as far as this hotel stay it SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!

“They charged me even when I didn't stay - a real racket”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2008

We had to find a hotel at the last minute on the Fourth of July because of a family emergency. Naturally, almost everything was booked. I called the Cayo Grande and found a room there starting on the 6th, which I took because the entire week was booked at every other hotel I'd tried. Of course I still had to find accommodation for the night of the 4th, or we'd be sleeping on the street, so I continued calling hotels. Five minutes later, I found a hotel that could accommodate us for the entire week. I immediately called the Cayo Grande back to cancel our room and was told that there was a 72-hour cancellation policy. I had not been informed of this when I booked the room, and pointed out that I'd booked the room only five minutes earlier. They agreed to waive the charge, but later they charged my card anyway - and then when I tried to do a chargeback they claimed that I'd been told about the policy, which is not true. Their behavior was pretty slimy - especially since we were in Florida because of a serious illness in the family, not a pleasure holiday. Go to another hotel that cares about its customers.

  • Disliked — They charged me even when I didn't stay, claiming that they'd informed me about their cancellation policy, when they hadn't. Rotten people.
