“Islander Beach Resort Unit 604 - AMAZING!”

We stayed in Unit 604 at the Islander Beach Resort in Fort Walton Beach, Florida from November 1st through November 6th. This is our second visit to unit 604 at the Islander. The room was perfect for my husand and I and our 17 month old daughter. The views are absolutely breathtaking. You can see the sunrise and sunset from the balcony. The beach has the whitest sand I've ever seen. The pool is heated and always very clean. The room had enough storage space to put away all of our things. The day bed that pulls out and King bed provide enough sleeping space. It felt homey and nice in the room. We didn't want to leave. There are plenty of things to do and see in the area. We highly recommend taking a short drive to Destin and eating at Harry T's and viewing the sunset from the docks. I can't say enough good things about the resort and the area. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back.

“Great property, bad bed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2009

We stayed in unit #7004. The condo was very nice and had a great view. It was stocked well for the two of us and was decorated very nicely in a beach motif. We rented through Brooks and Shorey and had a great experience with them. Check-in/out was a breeze and we enjoyed the amenities that are included in their packages so we will definitely rent from them in the future. We especially like having access to chairs and umbrella without spending a small fortune and since it was the end of Sept we were easily able to get a great spot on the beach.

As for the condo itself, our only major complaint is that the beds were hard as rocks! Seriously, after sleeping in the master king sized bed for 3 days, we had to go to Urgent Care because my husband's back was killing him and he could hardly move. They gave him a couple of shots which made him feel a lot better and that night he tried sleeping in the full sized bed in the 2nd bedroom. Even that was too hard so he slept on the couch which he said was actually very comfortable. I understand some people like a very firm mattress but in a rental situation, I would think you would want to furnish a more middle of the road bed. We are looking for a place to come back to year after year but unless the owners replace the beds, I'm afraid we will need to find another condo to stay in for our annual trip.

The only other things I would caution about are the TV in the unit and the elevators. The main TV in the condo is pretty old and it looks like the bulb is about ready to go out. This is a very small thing since the beach is the main attraction but we enjoy watching movies in the evenings before we go to sleep so the dimness was a little inconvenient. As for the elevators, they are VERY slow and they did not appear to have air conditioning in them so the ride to and from the 7th floor was very uncomfortable.

Overall, we would probably stay at this property again, but we would choose a different unit. We really enjoyed that it was close enough to Destin that you could easily get there to eat, shop, etc., but far enough away to get out of the congestion.

“Great Time, bad beds!”

We stayed at the Islander 7008 for 6 nights. Overall we had a great trip. We booked through Brooks and Shorey and everything went smooth from the time of booking the trip until we left. The condo was very nice. It had a great view of the beach and we spent a lot of time on the balcony enjoying it. The only problem with the balcony was that one of the rocking chair legs was broken and our friend almost busted it when he sat in it. The condo was clean and neat. We were not provided with trash bags so bring your own. The other issue was the closet doors, they would not stay on track. We thought the condo was nice however both the master bed and the extra room queen bed were hard as rocks. I ended up on the sleeper bed with my son every night and our friends stated they did not get more than 4 hrs of sleep per night in the king bed. Some people may like hard beds but not us. Overall we would rent this condo again if new softer mattresses were purchased. We had a great time despite the beds.

Feedback on unit 703 which we stayed at for a wedding Dec 27 and 28 is not good at all. The unit smells strongly of dogs throughout. The bed had worn out (clean?) bedspread, old sheets and no blanket. There were no amenities at all except bath soap so we had to drive out to the pharmacy for shampoo. No hair dryer, a noisy fan in the worn out barely clean bathroom. There was a coffee maker with one hotel coffee packet that we used the first morning. No maid services. The TV did not work. With three remotes we could turn it on and off but it had only unwatchable channels-unable to get clear cable reception. For these problems there was no recourse as the office is closed on Sunday. I woulld have changed our room after the first night. FYI you have to drive everywhere for restaurants and supplies.
On the positive side the beach is lovely even though it seems to be shrinking. The wedding was lovely There were lots of clean white towels available.
All in all this is an outdated worn out hotel/resort. It was just adequate for two nights but we would never go back there
We bought our tickets at travelocity but the resort was the location of and recommendation from the wedding

“Wonderful honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2008

The trip was excellent! It is great location because it is less that 10 minutes outside of destin. We stayed a week in a studio condo over -looking the beach. We booked our room for under $600. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and dishes. We booked with resort quest and were able to get a package of passes to local attractions. We also took advantage of the free beach chairs, daily. The pool and beach were beautiful and clean. The staff was very friendly! The small faults: the dryer on our floor didn't work, there was water at our door most of the week but it was probably the rain from before we arrived. Our iron was broken but the staff quickly purchased a new one and brought it to our room.

  • Liked — We had a great trip well worth the price
  • Disliked — You really can't escape the sand while you're there. --oh well love the beach
