“Talk about hearing the waves from your room....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We are staying at the Islander Beach Resort, unit 5006, booked through Brooks and Shorey Resorts for the week of Dec 26th - Dec31st. This is our second night here and all I can say is WOW....if you want a really great ocean front room that is decorated very tastefully, this is the place for you!

The check in with Brooks and Shorey was quick and simple; the young lady at the front desk was helpful and pleasant, and made sure we understood everything about the rental. We had booked online and everything was in order upon our arrival.

When we got to the unit, I couldn't have been happier. It is a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom condo, and for 4 people, it's perfect.

All the furniture is well kept and clean; the unit is spotless and smelled very good. The beds are ok...nothing ever feels like your bed at home, but it's not hard as a rock or worn out, just somewhere in between. The linens are clean and are not stained; the kitchen is stocked with everything you need to prepare meals and all the appliances work with no problem.

The living room has a large screen HD tv with an Xbox; several dvds and games are available for the guest, as well as a drawer full of paper back books. The internet connection is very good. Only one of the bedrooms has a flat screen, and it would be nice if the other bedroom tv were to be upgraded.

The view from the huge balcony is breathtaking. I can't wait to get up each day to go out and sit and watch the waves and the sunrise. Even though it's a bit chilly at this time of the year, even the cold doesn't take away from the view.

We hope to make this a yearly get away, as it is truly a great place to stay...just sit on the sofa and watch the waves roll in from the living room and kitchen or take it outside to a neat little table and 4 chairs on the balcony. My only complaint..that I can't stay another week!

Room Tip: Make sure you get at least a 4th floor or higher room or you won't have as good of an ocean view...

“Great Little Room, Exactly as Advertised”

This poor little place hasn't had many recent reviews. It looks Exactly the way it's advertised. The view is BEAUTIFUL. The bed IS comfy and everything is in working order. We had no problem with the management. They were accommodating and helpful.

I wish someone would have written that you can hear the waves crashing from the bed.. with the door closed! Great bargain for what you get!

“Won't Go Back to Fort Walton Beach”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2011

We found the Islander to be nice enough. Condo 502 was a very small studio. It would have been nice for two people, but for three we had to open the sofa bed which took up a lot of space and was very uncomfortable. The condo was clean and the decorations were nice enough. The view was amazing. The first problem that we had was not necessarily with the Islander but with the area. There was a tremendous amount of seaweed to contend with on the beach, making swimming unpleasant because it would stick to hair and skin. Lots of seaweed washed up onto the sand and with it floating in the water, the water did not look clear and bright. Very disappointing. For some reason unknown to us though, we traveled 7 miles to Destin and there was no seaweed at all. Another problem was that it rained off and on for the first day and a half and the drainage at the entries to the Islander parking lots is terrible. To get anywhere I had to drive through what seemed like a foot of water that was standing at each entry to the parking lot. I have always heard that driving through standing water is bad for vehicles, but there was no way around it. For these reasons, I won't go back to Fort Walton Beach. I will try Destin next time.

“Nice location and Nice view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

There were three couples and one child that stayed in our condo. The condo was 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. The half bath really helped with so many people. The condo was decorated nicely and laid out well. The view was gorgeous and right on the beach. Nothing is really within walking distance so you do have to drive everywhere- too far to bike as well. The area is kind of hidden though, so the beach is nice and quaint. There are chairs reserved for you on the beach with umbrellas which is nice. There are several grills in a courtyard with a table or two but nothing in the shade. My only complaint is that the condo did not seem that clean. Linens were clean but when I spilled my water on the kitchen floor and cleaned it up, it made my towel filthy... so I don't think the cleaning service does a great job. Overall good value though.

Room Tip: get a higher level room for a great view

“Islander Beach Resort Unit 604 - AMAZING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2009

We stayed in Unit 604 at the Islander Beach Resort in Fort Walton Beach, Florida from November 1st through November 6th. This is our second visit to unit 604 at the Islander. The room was perfect for my husand and I and our 17 month old daughter. The views are absolutely breathtaking. You can see the sunrise and sunset from the balcony. The beach has the whitest sand I've ever seen. The pool is heated and always very clean. The room had enough storage space to put away all of our things. The day bed that pulls out and King bed provide enough sleeping space. It felt homey and nice in the room. We didn't want to leave. There are plenty of things to do and see in the area. We highly recommend taking a short drive to Destin and eating at Harry T's and viewing the sunset from the docks. I can't say enough good things about the resort and the area. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back.
