I cannot say enough about the staff ... Customer service is excellent. The rooms are average, and in need of upgrades, but are comfortable, and have great views of Ft. Pierce Inlet. If you're bringing a boat, they have dockage insure, which is a huge plus. By boat, the ocean is only 3 minutes away.

We are glad that we discovered the Sandhurst, an off-the-beaten-track quality hotel on the water near Fort Pierce, Florida. Stayed there last week after checking prices on both hotel.com and the hotel's own Web site. This time the hotel had the better deal, with a $65 special for Florida residents (normally $79). The continental breakfast was a little better than standard fare, with some innovative hot breakfast choices. We were surprised to see a guest get on the elevator with a large dog, and learned that this is a dog-friendly hotel. The dogs we saw were all quiet and leashed. Not aware of any problems. A little funky beach restaurant is a short distance away, "On the Edge Bar and Grille" at 1136 Seaway Drive. Great place to have lunch or dinner, hang out with friends, or just sit on the beach with a frozen drink.

We only stayed overnight in Fort Pierce to break up our drive between Orlando and Miami - we wished we had stayed longer! We chose the Sandhurst Hotel & Suites based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. The hotel is in a fabulous position right on the water. The rooms are a good size with older style decor and very clean. The only downside was we couldn't get our shower to work very well. The staff were great and the breakfast was fantastic. We found a great place to eat dinner nearby on the beach that also had live music. We would definitely stay here again and for a bit longer, so we can explore the town a bit more.
