I recently stayed at this Clarion, because it was the host hotel for the Caloosahatchee Celtic Festival. All of us festival-goers who stayed there are a tight-knit little community, and the staff treated us like we were part of their family.
It's a really pretty property. My room was a ground-floor room facing the pool. Yes, it is an older room, but I liked it for its charm: it's decorated more like I was staying in someone's home or in an old inn or beach cottage, rather than a sterile, boring motel room. TV worked well, fridge worked well, shower worked well ... for what little time I spent in the room! :)
The Tiki Bar is a fun spot to hang out. The Sam Seltzer's restaurant has good food, and it's pretty reasonably-priced.
Breakfast at the Clarion is somewhat of a disappointment. The food's just not fresh enough; eggs, especially, when they sit in a warming dish for any length of time, are not going to have a good texture and taste. Even though it's a pain to do so, the attendant really should strive to put out smaller batches of food more often.
My only other complaint is that even though I had a non-smoking room, it smelt a little of smoke. I think this may be because staff smoke when they are handling the linens?
But overall, my two-night stay was wonderful! I appreciate very much the Clarion's role in the Fort Myers community, as official host of the festival, to provide an economical, safe, clean, fun place for out-of-towners to relax. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who's going to be staying in Fort Myers. It's conveniently located on US Hwy 41, within 15-20 minutes of a host of attractions, the beach, and the airport.
