This is the first actual hotel I have ever staying in where I truly felt like a welcome guest and not a walking credit card holder. The staff were kindness personified and went far beyond the call of duty to make my five-night stay comfortable and pleasant. The bed was spotlessly clean and super comfy, with adjustable firmness and a New Zealand wool pillowtop, I'd be pleased to buy one to have at home! The room was large, the bathroom very clean. The big drawback was the under-window air conditioning unit -- it was very noisy and drafty even on the low setting. What is noisy? the TV had to be turned up two volume settings whenever the unit came on. And the draft swirled around your head when you were in bed. Such a great shame -- those units really let the hotel and the staff down. The window could be opened 3 inches but the nearby main road was noisy, so the sleeping choice was between noise/draft and heat/lack of air:-( I had a nonsmoking room, which was fine, but didn't like having to walk down the corridor past the smoking rooms to get to my room, as I could smell the smoke seeping out, and on the smokers' clothing as I passed them in the corridor. Segregation into separate corridors would be an easy solution. Loved the free evening cookies on the front desk but a tiny sign saying Free would have helped -- it took me 2 days to dare to ask if they were free! The restaurant meals were tasty and excellent value. The pool was very clean but cold to anyone hailing from below the 49th parallel -- which meant all the more room for me! I'd love to visit the hotel again and say hello to all my by-now good friends on the staff:-) Let me know when those air conditioning units get thrown in the scrapyard and I'll be back on the next plane.
