When staying at this hotel note the difference between the Captiva Tower and the Sanibel Tower. The Captiva tower is 5 minutes away from the main hotel - you'll only see the main hotel in resort pictures. There is no food in the captiva building and the grounds and the view are significantly less. It's a five minute walk or they'll send a shuttle to take you to the main hotel. If you want to stay in the Sanibel Tower you'll pay an extra $40-$60 a night. That said the waterfront of the Sanibel Tower is spectacular as is the pool, and the rotunda bar attached to the main hotel. The rooms were the regular Marriott rooms with a balcony. Microwaves and refrigerators are available upon request if available. The beds were not so great. I'd read this before in a review before we went, and it didn't specify if they were talking about captiva or sanibel towers. We were in the Sanibel Tower so if the beds weren't that good there, I don't think they'd be better in the Captiva tower. The breakfast buffet in the morning is $20. It's not a $20 breakfast buffet. No carving station, no waffle station(they say they can make you one), no corned beef hash, no french toast. I'd recommend paying the $6 toll to Sanibel Island and driving to the Over Easy Cafe (an 8 min. drive) at the end of Periwinkle drive. Great Breakfast! The staff at the Sanibel Tower are great. Excellent service by everyone. By the way if you're going to Sanibel for the shells don't expect to find any more than an inch and a half long. 99% are the standard shell or clam looking variety. There are plenty of places to buy exotic shells, which is what you'll have to do if you go there for that reason. A great area for biking and walking. There are bike paths along all main roads and bike rentals. Also nature tours, walks, boating kayaking, etc.
