This was our second stay at this hotel and after this last stay we spent a night at the Hotel Indigo in Sarasota. The first stay at the Ft. Myers Hotel Indigo was pleasant as well as the subsequent stay at the Sarasota hotel, but on December 9, 2011 at the Ft. Myers Hotel Indigo, we experienced the worst stay ever of any hotel in the U.S. and Europe.
At check-in, the desk clerk, Dana, was being openly reprimanded by a male employee, and upon introducing myself, Dana said, "I hope you didn't want a balcony room." I explained that we had reserved a room with a balcony. Her answer was just to say that reservations often get messed up. She offered us a room with a couch and a corner room and whatever else she could think of and said they were all upgrades. I explained that they weren't upgrades as far as we were concerned because we have no use for a larger room with a sleeper sofa. Then she admitted that she did actually have a balcony room on the 7th floor. We took it.
We live in Sebring Florida and my wife wanted to take me to the Veranda Restaurnt in Ft. Myers for my birthday. We we returned to the hotel, a private party was under way on the hotel roof, just above us. The music was incredibly loud; my wife called Dana and said the noise was unacceptable. Dana said she had already received complaints and that she was going to contact the food and beverage manager.
The noise continued unabated long after quiet time so I called Dana. Dana, who would make a great roadside motel manager at YeeHaw junction, started shouting at me, so I asked to speak to the hotel manager, when Dana shouted back, "I am the manager!" So, my wife, having years of liaison experience as a hospital manager, called Dana, but Dana immediately hung up on her, too.
It wasn't the music itself that was annoying; it was the bass that was so loud that it literally shook everything in the room and there was no amount of pillows over the ears that could stop it. The food and beverage manager succeeded in reducing the volume slightly but it was still intolerable up till at least midnight.
The next morning, Saturday, I asked Jessica, the desk clerk, if we could speak to the hotel manager. She said the only manager available was Liz, the housekeeping manager. We talked with Liz and she said she would contact Catherine O'Brien who would call us at home on Monday.
Of course no one called and I filled out a questionaire about my experiece at the hotel and was asked if I wished to be contacted and also got the same request from Prioity Club. I indicated to the hotel directly, the IHC, and Priority Club that I would like to be contacted. This has been well over one month and no one has ever contacted us.
The conclusion is: This hotel is a nice clean hotel in a convenient location with reasonable prices. It is a nice place to stay if everything goes perfectly, but if you ever have any problems, you are completely on your own. And if you wish to be shouted at by a desk clerk and your requests ignored, then this is the place for you. We are absolute proof that they do not care about their customers.
