We booked this hotel for Friday and Saturday night this past weekend (beginning of February) and though the rates were still high (over 300 for only two nights), we knew it would be more affordable than many of the other motels and hotels along the AIA strip (right by the ocean). Do not let the pictures deceive you- THIS PLACE IS A DUMP. Our toilet seat wasn't even attached, and fell off with the touch of a finger. None of the amenities worked. The floor was slimy and chunks were missing from the walls. MOST DISTURBING was the customer service. When we called to ask about the air conditioner and television not working, the women at the front desk- Nydra and Gail- did not offer to come look at the room, did not offer to give us a different room (although there were several open rooms beside us), and engaged in a heated discussion about how "we should have known what we were getting into" and that "it was our fault." I cannot adequately describe how disrespectfully they talked to us, and they refused to refund us (at this point we just wanted to go anywhere else) because they said we had been at the hotel too long without complaining. Mind you, upon first checking in, we had just dropped off our bags and gone to dinner, so as soon as we spent more than 5 minutes in the hotel, we contacted them. That night and the next morning, we overheard at least two other sets of unhappy customers complaining about the terrible conditions and the horrible attitudes. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, this place is not worth it. Hopefully it won't be around much longer, but please avoid it if possible. It is important to note that the Avalon Waterfront is right next to another hotel, Tropicay, which is about half the price of Avalon. Though Tropicay is not the nicest place, Avalon IS NO BETTER. DO NOT waste your money- if you want an affordable trip, you are better off at Tropicay.
