“Mixed feelings”

I stay at a lot of Starwood Properties and do like the W hotel chain. The FTL property may have been the largest W Hotel I've stayed at to date and despite the average rating there were some things about the property I really did like. The location near the beach and close to the gay beach in FTL was a definite plus. Additionally, the hotel has a superb pool and nice restaurant which made our stay very convenient.

My main issue with the hotel was I thought the rooms were not particularly quiet. Conversations and noise from the hallway was evident and some parts of the hotel had a musty smell.

The rooms were quite nice and I've included pictures of our room.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 5th floor are close to the pool and lobby. Waiting for elevators or if you needed to g...

“Depends on your room...”

Great place with a fantastic ambiance! The spectacular room (1624) was comfortable! The one thing about this room being on the north side of tower one is you could hear the constant humming of the exhaust fans down on the lower level. We rarely kept the balcony door open because of this. Our friends had a room on the other side of the tower and it was much nicer to be able to enjoy the ocean without the hum. Also, used some of the services of the Bliss Spa - very professional and great service! I would stay there again but only with particular attention to the room location.

“Nice modern hotel on the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012 via mobile

Thoae who choose a W know they want a W. the mod styings aren't for everyone. The pool and surrounding deck are great. Service is very good. It's not a place for families, but it's good for business travel. The services and food for our meetings were excellent.
My pet peeve is when pricey hotels charge for internet access, when basic hotels have free access.

“Fab hotel, splurge for terrace room w lounges”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012 via mobile

We splurge for the corner terrace room. We practically stayed there whole time...especially since its sun, clouds, n rain sometimes, so easy to pop in n out. It has amazing views of the river n the ocean/beach. Bed was comfy. Food was excellent at hotel restaurant stk954! the pool with fun see through bttm was cool.n bliss spa was excellent.ps the bathroom amebities r bliss products.staff friendly n amazing....pps.Other than ritz carlton via luna, the other restaurants like saia n east end brasserie in area r quite disappointing for value.

I'm thrilled you enjoyed the Cool Corner room! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The wrap around balcony brings the outside in while you relax in your guestroom. We hope to see you again, enjoying Bliss, Steak954, and our two Wet decks.
Until next time, all the best!

“Not the Wow we were led to believe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

After returning from a great cruise to Jamaica and Haiti, we decided to spend the night in Ft. Lauderdale at the "W" hotel which was situated on the beach. We entered the hotel on the ground level and found the place to be very dark and very cold looking. We had a corner room on the eighth floor overlooking the pool and the ocean. The humidity was high and we were told that if we opened the patio door to be very careful because the tiled floors would become instantly slick. They were correct. The floors were treacherous. The internet access was $14.95 for one day and increased from there. This was supposed to be a rather upscale venue and to charge for internet was unexpected. The hotel was confusing to get around in and there was no real gourmet restaurant as we were led to believe. The food however was very good and the service pleasant. While I would recommend this for those who want to be near the beach, I would not pay extra for a room that overlooks the ocean because of the humidity factor.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts from your visit. Complimentary wireless internet is offered in the Living Room of the hotel, which is great for catching up on emails and/or sipping a cocktail overlooking the ocean. I'm pleased you had a positive experience in Steven Starr's award winning restaurant, Steak954. The W brand does offer a more modern approach to hotel accommodations, and we hope you visit us again, or one of our sister properties, Westin and Sheraton, next time you're in the Fort Lauderdale area.
All the best.
