“Presumably you wouldn't get wet if it were to rain”

Room was charged at $75/$83 with tax. I just got off a cruise ship and was seeking a room for the night prior to my morning flight. I was referred to the motel by a guy from starbucks a half a block away. I asked to look at a room prior to renting but they didn’t have one clean for me to see, that should have been the first hint. They said if I paid for the room in advance that I would be allowed to store my bags. I paid and they took me upstairs to put my bags in the room. Not just the rooms but the entire operation is severely dated in every aspect imaginable. The room looks to be furnished from a mediocre selection provided by little sisters for the poor donation barn, no closet only a rod with 3 hangars. The key only fit the door knob not the deadbolt so I couldn’t lock deadbolt from the outside. The chain on the inside didn’t work either. The windows sweat, the vertical blinds controls were barely operable (this is a $15 fix with a trip to home depot) The heat/air is provided by a wall unit (the face plate was connected with electrical wire twisted together) that didn’t blow hot air (something you don’t realize until night time when it’s cold and the office is closed- don’t expect a return call from the number your given to call for help-it’s more likely you’ll hit the lottery). The refrigerator doubles as the TV stand to the Daewoo 19 color tv circa 1980, the remote didn’t work. The cable tv wiring for 6 rooms was run along a wall from the floor through the ceiling in my room, it’s a powerful feeling knowing I control tv viewing others. There was nowhere to put your suitcase unless it’s on the furniture which ties up the space you would otherwise use for your personal items they are intended for. The tile floor was cold throughout, the bathroom had two towels that could double for sandpaper, not sure how they get every fiber stiff but they did exfoliate my skin when I dried with them. no hand towel or wash clothes. The water has a yellow hew, the bar of soap they provided were the size of a silver dollar. Despite the smell of bleach, It had an overall dirty feel. I was unsure if the sheets had been slept in previously. Two lamps had to have the knobs giggled until they would turn on. A frat house could use this as their base and it wouldn’t look much different after their spring break departure.
Pro’s are that you do have the feeling that you’re safer than sleeping on the beach with your luggage, less likely to get robbed, the motel is located across the street. If it rained, presumably we would be kept dry.

“Don't expect the Waldorf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2011

Elizabeth runs the place with her husband. She is from Poland and that means that there is not a speck of dust anywhere and the refrigerator is unplugged when you enter your room. Rooms are eclectic, sizable and not uncomfortable. It does remind me very much of a European experience, not the homogenized Holiday Inn by any stretch.

For 115.00 a night I woke up to the Atlantic Ocean at my feet. We were 4 blocks from the Lbow Room, the heart of Lauderdales young hot spot. Immediately next door is a great little restaurant/bar, Casablanca, where you can meet and greet with locals. 1/2 mile to a water taxi that will take you Old Hollywood or Downtown Ft. Lauderdale.

I initially thought I couldn't bring my wife here because it was too basic but in retrospect I think she'd love it. If you want Marriott, or Holiday Inn, this ain't it. But if you've traveled Europe and understand that the joy is being where you are, this is the place for you.

“Absolutely Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

My fiance and I relocated to Fort Lauderdale from Cleveland and the recruiter offered for us to stay here. When we showed up, the only woman working the desk spoke little English and was less than helpful. The sign on the elevator says "aut of order" although it does work. The reason for the sign is because they haven't bothered to get the elevator inspected and it expired in August. So we took all of our belongings to the 4th floor via the stairs.

When we entered the room, that's all it was. A small, prison sized room. The fridge is not full sized, there is no ironing board, iron, coffeemaker, etc. We had placed all of these things in storage in Cleveland so we had to purchase all of them upon arrival. The towels are paper thin and the staff consists of the two older owners and one 20-something female. The rooms are not cleaned daily and you have to go out on the balcony in order for the internet connection to work.

The hotel is literally on the A1A which is nice, but with the tourists it was incredibly loud and there was a ton of traffic. Yes there is a picnic table on the second floor but the smokers take over that area so I don't recommend it if you value your lungs.

My sister came to visit us on our second weekend and found that the owner had rifled through her belongings while we were out, including moving her luggage and unplugging her fridge (even though she was using it).

We also found a can opener screwed into the door jam. More than likely, back from the hey day of Fort Lauderdale spring break but nothing in this place was updated. The decor is bad 80's Miami Vice and there were actual blood stains on our bed spread. We asked for a new one but were never given anything but the filthy, stained, tattered spread.

Unless you are absolutely desperate for a night to sleep, I would never stay here again.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2009

Great Location right on the beach. We stayed on the 2nd floor facing the ocean.Terrific view. They have a patio table on the deck area, we sat at in the mornings and evenings and just watched the people and enjoyed the great view of the ocean.Just cross the street and you are on the beach.About a block south is all the nightlife, shopping and resteraunts.Quite room for sleeping in.We had a full size refig.,microwave and stovetop in the kitchen area.Very clean.I stopped and looked at many hotels along that area and this was the only one that was clean.Very safe at all hours. The price was decent especially for being right on the beach. Some places were a little less expensive but as I said they were not clean.Others in that area are very nice but the price for that luxery was very expensive.Highly recommend this hotel.

“Affordable and clean with a great location!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2009

I have stayed there on numerous occasions over the last few years by myself and with my family. I think this place is a great place to stay if you want something clean and simple in a perfect location. Its close to everything; numerous restaurants, shopping, bars, watersports, water taxis, the port if your taking a cruise, the convention center, las olas blvd, and its right across from the beach!! Everything seemed to be within walking distance or a short taxi ride (you may not even need a car depending on the purpose of your trip).
The rooms are very clean, which is a must for me and my family. In fact, one of my favorite rooms is the beautiful oceanfront rooms (like 201 or 301). These rooms offer fantastic ocean and beach views, are spacious, have a kitchen and are well decorated.
I think all the rooms have tiled floors by the way, which is great if you don't like smelly, dirty carpets. The parking is included and covered. The service is usually pleasant and courteous. Oh, and I have to mention the big picnic table on the large second floor balcony that is always available. I have spent many hours taking in the exceptional views of the beach here; ideal for having a drink, a meal or for just people-watching.
But the best part is, the clean rooms are very affordable, which is hard to find on Fort Lauderdale Beach with all the new, extravagant beachfront hotels (like the Marriot, Westin, the Regis, and the Hilton among others). Just don't expect room service or a swimming pool (who needs it anyhow with the beautiful beach right there!!).
The clientele is a nice mix, mostly tourists from all over the world and the states, some professionals, and many families and couples. Now, they even offer free wireless internet access in all the rooms!! Oh and by the way, you can have a phone in your room, you just have to ask and leave a phone deposit.
So, I highly recommend this small, quaint, old fashioned find. It is in a quiet, SUPERB, and SAFE LOCATION offering stunning views and pleasant clientele near hotels like the Marriot and others, but it is still VERY CLEAN and AFFORDABLE.
