We were scheduled to arrive on Sunday, Feb 8. We booked through Travelocity and had our itinerary with us. We left Albany, NY at 8:30 in the morning, and arrived at the hotel around 1:00. No one was there and the office was closed! Some of the other tenants saw us and showed us an emergency number we could call. We called and explained we were there to check in, and the manager said "do you have reservations?" to which we replied "Yes" and he said "Are you sure?" You can imagine our dismay. He told us he would be there in one hour, and could we wait. Since we hadn't had lunch, we agreed (although we would have liked to have checked in and changed from our winter clothes to more appropriate attire). We went to a nearby restaurant, ate lunch and returned about 1 hour and 15 minutes later. Still no manager, and the office is still locked. We sat by the pool (it is a good thing the weather was nice, or this could have been far worse) for another 30 minutes and called the Emergency number again. We asked if they were on their way (he had told us he only lived 20 minutes away) and they said yes. We waited another 20 minutes and called Travelocity. They placed us on hold and contacted the manager and came back to tell us he was only 2 blocks away.
The manager DID eventually show up, and we were finally showed to our room. As we went in, he turned on the light and the light bulb blew. He said he would replace it, but never did. The bedroom door would not shut since the hinges were on backwards. We had 3 plates, two cups, two pans for cooking (with no lids), and a few pieces of silverware. Not exactly a well stocked kitchen. No toaster, and the stove's largest burner did not work.
Although it was clean enough, the maid service leaves a lot to be desired. She would come and take our towels, but not leave new ones. When I went to the manager, he said that she had to wash them and would return them later. One day we never did get towels. We left a note asking for towels which did come the next day.
The pool was not always clean. It looked like the skimmer was only turned on some of the time. The air conditioner has seen better days, but did keep us cool. There was no tea pot or other container for making tea, coffee, etc.
On the positive side, there was plenty of hot water, but the toilet ran all the time. My husband actually fixed it while we were there. It was within walking distance to the beach which was nice. The free breakfast advertised is wrong but since you have a kitchenette, you can fix your own breakfast. There was free internet, which worked well. The television worked and had a lot of channels. The beds were comfortable. The maid did do a good job cleaning, but like I said, sometimes we didn't have towels. There was a grill that we used to cook a steak and we had a nice time sitting outside eating the steak and enjoying the sunshine.
We probably would not return there. Although it worked for us for this vacation and didn't cause us to have a good time, we didn't feel that the manager or the maid did quality work. We would have expected SOME type of apology or amends for having to wait over 2 hours just to check in, but the manager simply said "My English is not good". When I asked a question about a local shop I was referred to his daughter who spoke better English.
Oh yeah -- the photos must have been enhanced. It really doesn't look like this at all. We tried to figure out how they GOT this picture, but we still aren't sure.
