“Great Location, Friendly Staff, Clean rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Stayed in two bedroom unit with two seperate bathrooms. Room was clean. Full kitchen. Screened backporch. Heated pool. This is an older property but well kept. After talking with the office staff you almost feel like " part of the family". This is not the Ritz but it does afford a cozy slow paced feeling only 4-5 minutes walk from beach, food and shopping. Free parking and a robust maint. staff. All and all, it worked very well for me.

“Better than first impression”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

The worst part of this "resort" comes upon arrival, with the small registration office, no main hall, parking and catwalk overlooking the rear of a small, dilapidated commercial strip on the north side. The friendly, efficient staff cannot compensate for this initial letdown. The unit which we occupied was rather clean and comfortable, which may have not been the case of all units based on complaints we heard from other guests. The best part was the back balcony, overlooking a small canal with docked boats, but the canal is very narrow and apartments located across are too close for comfort. It is centrally located, within easy walking distance of the beach, but it does not deserve the name "resort", especially when compared to real resorts we have visited though Interval or DRI. It is passable as a base for sleeping, but not recommended as a resort for relaxation and lounging all day.

“Good location, No Frills, an 'Oldie but a Goodie'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Me: Wyndham 'Owner' who exchanged for this resort via RCI. A true 'Average' rating for the place. Not Excellent but not bad --- an 'oldie but a Goodie' would best describe the Coconut Bay Resort.

Pros: 1) Location, location, location! About a block from the beach, block from a shopping mall, reasonable drive to just about anywhere. 2) My unit was clean, smelled clean, carpeting/floor tiles/paint seem new in places. 3) Pool/hot tub were OK but the sun is blocked by neighboring residence high-rises, 4) staff friendly, 5) ample parking, 6) TVs in both rooms, basic kitchen setup. 7) I didn't bring a boat but you can park your boat on one of the neighboring channels that borders the place. ---- Overall, it's not the Ritz Carlton but I would have no problem staying here again.

Cons: 1) Some parts of my room showed age/wear and tear. For example, the ceiling tiles in my bathroom were worn/broken and are in need of an upgrade. Walls/doors had chips but were still functional. 2) Popcorn style ceilings. 3) Lack of cooking utensils such as baking pans/pizza pans. 4) No DVD or Blue Ray player, 5) No Wireless Internet unless you were lucky to pull in one bar from the complimentary 'free' wireless in the lobby (so 2002 in my opinion). 6) No washer/dryer but they did have a dish washer in the unit and coin-op laundry with reasonable reasonable prices. 7) Next to a fire station (it didn't bother me but I can see where this would bother some people in the middle of the night). 8) 'Free' morning doughnuts/coffee and free hot dog/soda Wednesday is an attempt to lure you into signing up for a timeshare presentation from the building operators. I didn't fall for it!

Overall:

This place is about fifty years old so I wasn't all that surprised at some of the wear and tare in my room. In my opinion, most (not all) of the people who complain on previous post probably are the type that spend their entire week inside the unit (24/7) versus going outside, going to the beach, exploring southern Florida, etc. For the most part, the place was clean, felt secure, and I would have no problem coming back. Some units may be different than others and some units have people living there year round. After stating 'no' via phone to the person who wanted me to attend a timeshare presentation, I wasn't bothered again. I would have no problem staying here again with family or as a solo traveler but I wouldn't suggest this place for a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: There is a great State Park across the street! Call resort before hand to confirm what you're...

“Go somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

We stayed here for a week in late September 2011 through RCI. There is not much nice I can say about this place. These are a apt/condo conversion and apparently some of the owners live here part time. We stayed in a I think 208 and directly below us was a an owner in his condo doing a sanding project at 1:00 am. We couldn't tell at first where the noise was coming from, we tried calling management, forget it, they roll up the carpets when they lock the front lobby door. We finally had to confront the owner below us. In addition, the carpets were disgusting in our suite and the furniture was not much better. I couldn't believe RCI would even offer this place.

Room Tip: Since many of these seem to be individually owned it's almost luck of the draw unless you can fi...
