Unfortunately I stayed at the Deauville during the intense cold snap & the manager absolutely refused to allow us to keep the oven on for any period of time, though the other women in the room & I coordinated a schedule to keep an eye on it. We froze our butts off while the other heaters were locked up in the management office. The GM, Jeff, had no compassion, was actually a sadistic sort who wears his "power" on his sleeve.
After visiting several other Hostels, including "The Bridge At Cordova" I realized that Jeff is an abberation in the industry. All of the other hostels relaxed their policies, recognizing that their guests could not freeze & allowing whatever measures were necessary to keep folks warm.
Though the deauville is close to the beach, other hostels, like the one mentioned above, are only a bus or bike ride from the beach and definitely much better equipped to handle customers appropriately.
