Every Year we try to escape the rainy and cold weather in good old Germany and the best place for us is the Green Island Inn in Fort Lauderdale.
A family owend small 25-room hotel in a residential area north of A1A.
Embedded in a tropical garden, each room, named after a different island in the Caribbean, is painted individual in in bright poppy colors. You can choose between studio or suite.
We love to stay there every year in a very familiar atmosphere.

I stayed at the Green Island Inn for five days in 2005. Here it is now 2008, and I still feel compelled to leave this review.

Finding decent, affordable lodging in Fort Lauderdale is hard. You either pay an arm and a leg for quality, or save your money, and get trash. So, when I came across this diamond in the rough, I was quite surprised.

I had a room with a double bed, kitchenette, vanity section, cable and heat light for about $300 dollars. There was a pool on the property, and the beach was right across the street. The staff and management were nice, and the guest were friendly.

So, if you want a decent blend of quality and affordable price, then this is your place.

I stayed with my young daughter at the Green Island Inn back in 2001. We stayed for one month, so having the kitchenette was perfect!

I can't recommend this hotel more! Simply put, the hotel itself made the experience for me. Lovely rooms which look out over the pool and the only lushly vegetated hotel in all of Ft. Lauderdale. This hotel beats all the others hands down!

I now live in Miami and would consider booking a room for a weekend at the Green Island Inn simply for the quiet, tranquil and beautiful experience that one is guaranteed to have there.

My wife and I plus our two cats have stayed with Michael and his Mum on several occasions. Once for 6 weeks in 2000 and then for 4 weeks in 2001 and again in 2005. We don't stay anywhere else in Florida. You can keep your 5 star hotels because you will never find anything more welcoming than the Green Island Inn. May they always exist. They are good for all ages and its handy for eating out and for buying all you need to feed yourself.
