It pains me to write a negative review, as I have been a long-time fan of this place. To be clear, I have no complaints about the facilities, the location or the staff. I have only one complaint - a non-disclosed add-on mandatory gratuity charge.

I called the resort and agreed upon a rate. The follow-up e-mail from them confirmed the rate, saying that only "taxes and incidentals" would be added. When I signed in at check in however, they had also added a previously-undisclosed 5% per day mandatory gratuity in the fine print (unnoticed by me). I went about my stay, happily tipping staff members, not knowing that I was already paying over $7 per day in tips to the hotel!

For what, exactly? Aren't tips at the discretion of the customer? And why would they also place an envelope for tips in the customer's room?

The resort has refunded the fee - but only because I later noticed the charge and complained. But this is a very bad policy - and one that you won't have to put up with at the many other male guesthouses in Lauderdale. My hope is that the new owners of Schubert will stop this unadvertised policy immediately, so I can go back to recommending this nice resort to friends and colleagues.

I recently had an emergency at my condo and was forced to leave for a week. I went to Schubert and was pleasantly surprised. It is a very nice, very well maintained resort. The rooms were very clean and spacious. They have recently (as I was staying there) done some updates and upgrades. The staff was great; all were very pleasant and friendly. The place was quiet and peaceful. This was not a planned get away so I had to work every day. I get up at 2 am to start my day so I am in bed early. I had no problems getting sleep as it was very quiet even while the other guests were enjoying the amenities. I would recommend this resort to anyone who is looking for a peaceful quiet get away. Thank you all at the resort for all your caring, and conversation during my stay. I will be back but under better circumstances next time.

I had a long weekend with my dog. The property was excellent, staff, grounds,room, location. Nothing negative about it at all. Very friendly and accomodating staff. I had to work while there and was able to use the office for printing and faxing. Location was perfect and a short cab ride to wilton manors. I would stay there on my next visit to ft lauderdale.

My friend and I were looking for a dog friendly hotel in a quiet but central location. We found it! A great stay, helped along by wonderful, helpful staff. The rooms were massive, clean and comfortable. The pool area was sunny and clean. And we were pretty much the only people there. (there was one other guy) we will definitely stay there again.
