This L-shaped property abuts busy I-95 with the short end of the "L" being right next to it. However, double-pane windows cut down on the noise and the further you are from this thoroughfare, the quieter your room. Obvious as it is to motorists on I-95, actually getting to this property can be rather tricky, in some cases requiring a near U-turn. It sits at the end of a residential cul-de-sac and backs on to the No. Andrews Ave. bridge spanning I-95. All hallways are exterior ones. The 3 floors are accessible via one elevator or several outdoor stairways. Most of the parking spots are at the ends of the building with only a few directly abutting it. There is a laundry room with vending machines for refreshments and washing needs. The saving grace here is that the hotel is directly opposite a Seven-11 which is a lifeline considering the paucity of amenities here.
My room was furnished with a very comfortable queen-sized bed but flimsy, beyond the sell- by-date pillows. The bedspread (the no smoking sign notwithstanding) had several tobacco burns in it. There was a commodious easy chair and ottoman but both exhibited stains. There is a table and solid classroom-style chair which serves as a desk. The kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator/freezer, a small sink, a two-burner electric stove, a microwave, and tableware and utensils for two. A dish towel, 2 dishrags, and a small packet of dish washing liquid completed the furnishings. It was serviceable - just The bathroom had generous counter space, a big mirror, a tub-shower, and towels and washcloths (for 2) of a quality matching that which I get at my local YMCA. There were two sliver-sized pieces of soap.
This is where the neighboring Seven-11 came in so handy. Perhaps most business travelers come better equipped than I, but I used the store to purchase "real" soap bars, shampoo (none provided in the room), etc. I was also able to purchase OJ and various edibles as well as a morning paper. Maid service is provided only once every 7 days. So, during my six night stay, I never saw a maid - even to empty trash. One can go to the main office to exchange sheets and other linens (which reminded me of my college dorm days).
I had what I suppose was a reasonable rate for Ft. Lauderdale in the winter/high season purchased on Hotwire. The room was equivalent to that of a lesser Super 8 but without any maid service and restocking. The air conditioner never seemed to cleanse the room of a stale smell. As all windows face the exterior hallways, one is perhaps advised to keep the curtains closed at all times. I didn't follow my own advice the last night and a "caller" knocked on my door asking if I'd be interested in getting together with a girl (maybe pimping his sister or girlfriend?!?) and much later another man stopped by looking for "Candy." No, thanks!
