We drove from Canada to Florida and stayed at other La Quintas on the way down. Until Fort Lauderdale, our experiences with La Quinta were enjoyable. We stopped for one overnight at this hotel. We checked in and put our bags in the room, believing they would be safe while we went to get something to eat. When we got into the room, the TV was on which we found strange. Although you could see vacuum marks on the floor, there was debris along the wall. We turned off the TV and left the room to get supper. We were gone from 9:15 PM to 10:15 PM, ONE HOUR!. When we returned, all of our electronics were gone! Thieves walked away with every small bag they could carry. We lost all of our cameras and vacation photos. A bag with swimwear, a cooler bag and two laptops. One laptop was my son's that he received for his birthday, before Christmas. When we advised the front desk as to what happened happened, the front desk girl didn't even flinch. She told us to call police. I looked around the hotel and found some of my personal items in the back parking lot. That's when I discovered the back entrance that was supposedly accessible only by a room key, had its locking mechanism disabled with a screw. I asked hotel management about this and they said the lock wasn't working right so they had the latch disabled. There are no security cameras in the hallways so the theives had nothing to worry about when they left the hotel with our belongings. My kids were traumatized and couldn't sleep for days. The room deadbolt did not work either. I wish we had slept in the car! I wish I had seen the other reviews before stopping here.
