“Overrated Hotel”

The Hyatt Pier 66 in Ft. Lauderdale has a great location, near shopping, restaurants, piers for your yachts and Port Everglades, where many cruise ships sail from. We only stayed one night (pre-cruise) and felt the room decor was very tired. Amenities were lacking and we were disappointed in this hotel. We paid over $300.00 for the night - definitely not worth it - with the amount of other nice hotels in the area. Possibly if you were planning an extended stay, you would book one of the better rooms (in the Tower). These rooms are nicer, albeit more pricey. Get out your wallet.

Room Tip: Pool Front rooms tend to be noisy

“Treated like royalty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Me and my soundman were on a client's 42' boat shooting an executive profile. We pulled into Pier 66 and two employees were waiting for us to help dock the boat. Both of them were professional and courteous to a fault in addition to the red carpet treatment. Even though I was 'the help', we got the same treatment as did our client. The boat we were on was tiny compared to the luxury yachts around us, but it made no difference to the Pier 66 marina/dock staff as we were all treated like royalty.

“Yet another bait and switch...”

My wife and I were married at Pier 66 ten years ago, and we decided to come back to the "scene of the crime" for our anniversary. We originally booked into another favorite hotel of ours, Lago Mar. But we changed our plans out of a desire to revisit our honeymoon hotel, and were able to get our favorite room in the Lanai. However, upon check-in, we were told our room was already occupied, and that we were getting "upgraded" to a tower room. Devin, the front desk representative, seemed to get satisfaction in denying us our requested room in a way that exemplified a complete lack of appreciation for customer care. We had planned to spend another night at Pier 66, but are checking out tomorrow morning, and we doubt that we will ever return to stay at the hotel that, at one time, we held with such esteem and fond memories.

“This is a classic property, that i WANT to love....but it falls a bit short at times.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Let me start by saying that i LOVE Hyatt, i really do. I have been a Diamond Gold Passport member for more than 10 years.....

I have probably stayed at this property 20 times in the same years.

I love the location, and love the history of this Fort Lauderdale Classic. Hyatt Pier 66 is located on the inter coastal, and surrounded by beautiful yachts that circle the property and fill the adjacent marina. Wow....

The hotel experienced some renovations in recent years, most recently of the lobby area. Unfortunately, the property really needs a 'head to toe' renovation to bring it completely up to par with 4 star resort properties, and to bring all areas of the hotel into aesthetic alignment. The front of the hotel is 'circa 1974', while the lobby tries to be a 'W" with clean, contemporary decor, and the tower rooms are more 'classic, conservative hyatt' from the '90's. The decor mix is quite varied....

Dont get me wrong, rooms are CLEAN and very comfortable. Period. I read a number of the poor reviews on this site and was SHOCKED by the crap some people say. Wow...this is a WONDERFUL property. It could, and should be a more STAGGERINGLY WONDERFUL property though. So much potential....

:)

The rooms are split into 2 categories. The tower rooms, and the 'motel' rooms that surround the property (2 level). All have been renovated, all are incredibly comfortable. I am almost always upgraded to the 'tower' but often ask for a poolside room. The tower has 3 elevators, and i have often found that when there is a function on the roof of the tower, elevators are insufficient to handle the crowds. The staff also uses these elevators, which only complicates the problem. I really dont like waiting 10 minutes or more for an elevator....repeatedly. :(

The rooms in the tower are a bit older than the others...but very comfortable, and well maintained. Great beds, great linens. Large rooms with large baths. The air conditioning sometimes seems to be a bit 'stressed' in some rooms. I imagine the 'plant' is older....

The 'motel' rooms are newer, and more contemporary with tile floors and rugs. I like them, especially when poolside.

Grounds are perfectly maintained. PERFECT. The garden areas are HUGE for a property with this number of rooms.. Nonetheless, the design/style/landscaping is a bit dated. The pool and pool deck is also huge...but could use some attention to bring into the realm of world class resort pools. Its a bit boring....and dated. Sorry, hyatt.

My last couple of stays were not so great. The elevator waits, and having to wait for my room to be made ready put me off. The breakfast in the lobby restaurant was really lacking in terms of service. Items were not well maintained on the buffet, and the staff was not up to par. :(

I have since tried the Hilton down the road (nicer renovation...but nothing that special). I also tried the "W' on the beach, the Westin, and the Ritz. I loved all of them, and the Hyatt has probably lost me to the W and the Ritz.

I hate that, because i really do love Hyatt. Maybe someone will decide to once again make this property the jewel of Ft. Lauderdale as it once was. Its still awfully darn nice, but faces some really tough competition from newer players.

:)

Room Tip: Tower rooms offer views, and more traditional furnishings. Rooms in the motel wings are newer, and...

“Great time and stay at the Hyatt Pier Sixty-Six”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We recently had a two night stay at the Hyatt Pier Sixty-Six checking in on January 20, 2012. We have stayed at this property numerous times and always enjoy our time here. The location is outstanding. Very easy access to the Ft. Lauderdale Water Taxi and very close to Port Everglades. Some rooms in the tower have awesome views of the port and ocean. There is also an AVIS car rental agency on site which makes picking up or returning cars with this agency very easy.

Check-in was very efficient. As we checked in very early in the day, we were able to leave our luggage with the valet and leave for the day until our room was ready.

We had an Executive King in the tower and the room was very large. The room was in very good shape. Very large bathrooms. We had a few requests through room service and they were handled very quickly. The room also has very nice size private balcony. This is a HUGE plus for us. It's a great place to relax.

The Hyatt has a nice place called Pelican Landing for casual dining on the water. It's located down by the marina on the intercoastal waterway. Very relaxing while having a bite to eat or enjoying a cocktail.

Overall we had no issues with this property and have it booked again later in the year for another pre-cruise stay.
