“Great Hotel for A Short Getaway”

My wife and I just came back from a 2 day stay in Amelia Island and we're very glad that we ended up at the Hampton Inn on South 2nd Street. My wife has already made it a point to let me know that when we do come back we need to stay at this specific hotel again. This Hampton Inn is located in historic downtown Fernandina Beach. It's convenient to everything...shops, restaraunts, you name it. Once you arrive, there is no need to get back in your vehicle except to drive out to the beach if you so choose because everything is within walking distance from the hotel. There is one important thing to note. The hotel is located right on the river next to railroad tracks. The train came through a few times during the night and sounded its whistle. If you are going to have an issue with this, please be sure to mention it to the front desk staff (if they don't ask you beforehand) so that your room can be located on the other side of the hotel away from the tracks. The hotel itself is very nice and almost feels like home. There was a nice fire burning in the lobby fireplace when we arrived. There is complimentary coffee, tea, etc set up right there in the main lobby area. The front desk staff during our stay was very pleasant and helpful when needed. While we didn't really see our cleaning staff, our room was kept very neat. We booked our stay though our Amex Hilton Honor Program and were upgraded to a suite with a kitchen, living room and the main bedroom. The room was clean and comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was fantastic! Complimentary Breakfast is served from 6am to 10am each day on the 2nd floor, and is very worth it especially if you're on a budget. The breakfast spread was very nice and including everything from cereal, pastries, belgian waffles, sausage.......and all the rest. There is also a pool, but at this time a year all we did was look at it :) There is also plenty of free parking at the hotel. There is no shortage of things to do in the area. My wife and I did a carriage tour of the area and were picked up right at the front of the hotel. All in all, this was a great hotel if not a bit impressive for the Hampton Inn. We were very pleased!

Room Tip: Rooms away from train track are quieter.

“Nice, could be better”

We stayed in the Princess Suite. It was a nice suite with a kitchenette, a sitting area with a sofa and chair and TV and small balcony. The window in the sitting area overlooks the pool and beyond to the marina area. The bedroom was large and beautiful antique like decor. There is a jacuzzi tub in the corner of the room and a small sink/dressing area. The bathroom has a large shower with 2 shower heads.
The staff was very nice and helpful and the breakfast area on the second floor is beautiful with plenty of room.
My problem with this hotel was that room seemed to be partially upgraded. The carpet and furniture was nice but the ceiling has spackled areas that hadn't been painted, the bathroom needed updating, the wall paper was peeling.
As far as as cleanliness, the room was clean but not thoroughly cleaned. There was lots of dust bunnies in the vents and I found a coffee cup with lipstick on it, so I just put all the dishes in the dishwasher before I left.
Walking down the stairway from the second floor to the lobby you can see dust on the plant in the corner.
I think the hotel would be a great hotel if it just got a thorough cleaning and the work completed in the room.

“Enjoyable stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

We've stayed at this Hampton twice now and enjoyed our visit both times. The location is perfect. I also like staying at Fernandina Beach, especially if it's during warm months since you're right on the ocean, but it's so hard to beat this downtown spot too. It's right in the middle of small town America and I love it! The facilities are excellent, the staff is warm and welcoming, the food is good, and the rooms are comfortable. We reserved a suite this last time, and it was very nice to have the extra space since there were three of us in one room. I loved the lounge area too. Everything was as expected or better even yet!

“What a surprise!”

I did not expect a whole lot from a Hampton Inn. Used to staying in more luxury resort type properties, not much to choose from in Fernandina and the Ritz Carlton was booked. This is a VERY nice hotel and an exceptional value. It is all you would expect from a 3 star property with plenty of restaurants within a stone’s throw and large spacious rooms. Beautiful lobby, breakfast lounge and elevated pool with views of the water over the marina and a beautiful sunset view. I had one of their larger suites and it was as nice as any of the rooms I've stayed. Highly recommend, cute downtown area and stumbling distance to the great local bars like The Palace Saloon and O'Kanes Irish Pub. You don't get that at the larger resorts, so I lucked out with my first choice being booked up!

Room Tip: Go with the larger suites, King George is beautiful with great views.
