This is a review strictly for the restaurant I have never stayed at this place. First off I am surprised that there is only 7 reviews on this joint. It has been an Amelia Island 'staple' for many years. There seem to be some odd reviews about folks expecting resort style service or maybe they are just picky I am not sure. The surf is a great local dive bar that happens to serve food. We always sit outside, the inside is dated and lonely. They have a large deck outside with comfortable furniture and normally have live music or something going on. It is a good go-to place in the evening and grab a pitcher of beer and a burger/wrap and unwind. The food is not stellar, but that is not the reason to go to the surf, if you want 5 star, go downtown. I have dined there many times and the food is consistent. My friends and I have experienced everything from the seafood to the burgers/wings. The lack of details in food preparation is compensated for in portion size. The salads are huge. The burgers are a good size and they are not stingy with the daily special portions either. AUCE wings on Wednesday. $5 Lobsters on Sunday, you get the drift. Service is normally swift and you get checked on often.
Whats to like? Good local atmosphere, decent food at a fair price. Nice place to sit outside in the evening after it cools off a bit and listen to some jimmy buffet remix by some old salty dude with a guitar.
Not to like? The inside. The one time I dined inside I felt like I was at a VFW and needed a bingo card or something. Just odd, not sure why. Also, if you go at peak times on the weekend or holidays service can suffer due to volume. Most of the kids there work hard, they just get slammed. Nothing you can do about that. Have a cocktail chill out and get on island time and get over yourself.
