“Absolutely the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My husband and I have stayed at quite a few B&B's throughout the country. I can honestly say that the Addison was one of the best. We especially liked the location of our room. The room had a seperate entrance, porch and best of all in looked out on to a lovely garden. The room was tastefully decorated with a beautiful modern bath. Even the towels had a beautiful smell and were ever so soft. The breakfasts were outstanding with a nice variety, carefully planned and well presented. Each evening there was a happy hour and there was always a delicious appetizer to accompany the wine and beer. We enjoyed our stay and if we return to Ferandina Beach we will definitely plan to stat at the Addison.

“Sojourn in the historic district”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Addison is an "extra-large" B&B with 14 rooms. It is set within the historical district at walking distance from bars, shops and restaurants. An admirable location with a serene courtyard with fountain and porches to sit and relax when outside temperature allows. Because of the low occupation at the beginning of January, the place was very quiet. We were given the choise between two rooms. It was a nice touch as we booked a room with a shower and were offered a larger room with a jetted tub. Elegant and unostentatious furniture, calming colours, bathroom with tub, fluffy towels: all very clean. Addison offers a large pannel of amenities of which we haven't taken advantage of, but are certainly a plus for extended stays and do explain the price level. Attention to details, whether in the courtyard platation beds and the colour symphony used for the rooms and common area decoration is remarkable, as well as the tastefully season decoration in the sitting room and guests room.

All that said, I would have rated it a 5 wouldn't a few (major) spots of bother happend. If the possibility would be given, my rating would rather be a 3,5 for the following reasons:

Upon arrival we were invited to joint the 5 o'clock happy hour, which had been stressed to us, not to be missed in order to meet other guests. So I discarded my option of a warm bath to join the gathering before going for dinner. The ambiance was forced and the small talk difficult to keep going, maybe because we were just a few guests and the owner seemed a bit shy in entertaining? This uncomfortable situation was lifted luckily by a good restaurant recommendation.

As said before, it was January and bitter cold (30-50F); an extra woolen blanket or a duvet would have been welcome. On the next morning, I was realy looking forward to taking a bath... but there was no hot water! We had to make do with just lukewarm water and took a quick shower. The owner appologised during breakfast for the missing hot water and explained that the boiler had been forgotten to be switched on!?!

In regards to the breakfast, I am not able to relate our experience with those reported by other reviews. It was sub-par and cannot be seriously called a gourmet breakfast. As like in other B&B the breakfast was a menu: hot beverage and orange jus, coffee mousse (in reality a vulgar pudding), a walnut muffin (ok) with greasy sausages aside (some may like the kind of combination, I don't). In conclusion, this breakfast had no nutricional value or memorable good taste and did not match the overall level this house aspires.

In respect to the efforts provided by the owners and their personel, our experience unfortunately ranged in the middle field.

Thank you for all your kind words. Your description of the inn location and décor was lovely. We are so sorry you were not thrilled by your experience at the Addison. We would have dealt with your displeasure immediately, had we known. The hot water was tepid for less than 2 hours that morning and the result of our hot water tanks tripping off for a reason still unknown. It is unfortunate your short visit had to coincide with that glitch and we completely understand your frustration.
Your room has individual heat and air control and there are extra blankets in the armoires of every room. We also have down duvets for anyone who requests them. We live on the property, so you would have been provided with one immediately if you had asked.
We are also sorry that breakfast was not to your taste. As our featured breakfast during your visit, we served Belgian waffles with fresh berries, maple syrup and sausages, as well as a starter of maple walnut muffins, and espresso mousse. We also offer a choice of breakfasts besides our featured menu. We are always willing to provide a delicious breakfast to suit any individual’s taste.
The Addison strives to be the best possible B&B experience for all our guests. We take pride in every detail and continue to make upgrades to improve that experience. We hope you will give us another chance to show you what the Addison experience truly is.

“Don't stay anywhere else!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My husband and I find B&Bs are much better than hotels when we travel in the South, and the Addison is quite possibly the best B&B we have ever stayed in. The property is lovely, rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished, no detail or amenity is lacking. The location is right in the heart of historic Fernandina Beach, an easy walk to several fine restaurants and to the marina. The veranda, with comfortable seating, overlooks the garden and is a great place to read and relax. Free WiFi covers the entire property. But best of all are your hosts, Bob and Shannon and their daughter Lee. Their generosity and congeniality are contagious, so that after your first Happy Hour (wine, beer, hors d'oeuvres from 5:00 to 6:00 pm every evening) you will know all the other guests as old friends. The Addison truly deserves all the kudos it gets on Trip Advisor.
I should add that Bob is a Notary who can officiate at weddings, and while we were there he married, in the lovely garden, a nice young couple who had met in the Army in Iraq. We celebrated with them at Happy Hour, and it made our visit even more special.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 2 in the main house. It was palatial yet homey, very quiet at night, and we slept...

“"The Bar has been set high now!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This was our first experience at a Bed & Breakfast and we loved it! We stayed in Room 3 and enjoyed the elegance and first rate accomodations. Everything about the Addison speaks quality and personal service. The evening Happy Hour provided a feeling of "family" among the guests and we enjoyed getting to know so many people who we might normally have never crossed paths with. Bob, Shannon, and Lee definitely make you feel welcome and were so helpful by offering suggestions on where to go and what to do. We were fed breakfasts that you would expect to see in a 5 star hotel and there was always drinks and afternoon snacks available. The atmosphere was sooooo relaxing and we hope to be back soon!

Room Tip: Our room had a private balcony that overlooked the front of the house.

“Gracious Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

My wife researched B and B's in Amelia and was right on in selecting the Addison. The historic district has some amazingly noisy spots. Lively bars. Two busy roads, one in use perpetually by logging trucks and to cap it all, freight trains. By contrast with other potential choices, the Addison is in a tranquil spot just 2 minutes from Center Street.

The Tindalls insure everybody is warmly welcomed and do all they can to make the stay enjoyable.

The property is well maintained and the housekeeping immaculate. Parking is not a problem.

The breakfasts were varied and superbly prepared. Additionally, fresh coffee and other hot beverages are available 24/7 on a Keurig.

We especially enjoyed the happy hour and the conversations with our hosts and their other guests helping each other enjoy the Island.
