My wife and I stayed here for a mini vacation which was a part of my birthday. She found the motel and it was the cheapest on the island and on the beach.
I title it hilarious because of what we found in the few moments we walked into the room. If you are the type that takes vacation serious and things are not perfect this is probably not the motel to go to. I take things with a sense of humor because irritations will cause you too become a stooge.
The room was very small, petite small. Our room at the Hotel Jen in Hong Kong was bigger. the bed was where you could sit down as well as the small balcony. There was a sink and microwave located just a few feet from the bed.
4 hiliarious things about the room that I found within moments of being in it.
1) The bathroom door doesn't not close fully. The latch for the doorknob did not go into the hole no matter how hard you pushed. I couldn't even lock the door. I actually took a picture of the latch not going in because I thought it was funny.
2) TV remote didn't work fully. I had to get a 2nd one from check in. I used one to power on the tv as well as the volume while the original I used to change channels.
3)There is a very small shelf in the corner next to the bed holding a digital clock. The bed sits up against wall so to get to the shelf you have to get on the bed. Well, noticed that when I touched the shelf it began to lean so I pushed against it to take the lean out. I went to lay down and I guess my hand hit the shelf and the whole thing came down. I don't think shelves, of any kind should do that but I laughed because it was a comedy, in my book.
4) The door to the balcony, the handle came off when I went to close it. My wife says it was my fault because I have a strong grip. Well, even with a strong grip should A door handle come off. I did tell the front desk about it. I told them they could fix it when we leave.
Now, about the rest of the motel.
It sits at the corner of Atlantic Ave and Fletcher ave. Right next to what is called Main Beach. There are 2 ways to get there from when we get on Amelia island. You can take Sadler from A1A down to the round about and go to your left about 2 miles OR you take A1A straight to Fernandina beach to center ave and make a right. That eventually becomes Atlantic and it will dump you at the motel. Both directions are the same mileage. 4 miles so it is up to you the direction you take.
We choose a west room, the cheapest. Ocean view was $20 more. After seeing the set up I am glad we took it. There is a small restaurant that separates the beach from the motel. As a result the ocean view isn't a full view. The motel is in the shape of a horseshoe with a pool in it.
There is a complimentary breakfest from 7-10am. cereal, bacon-egg-cheest biscuits, do it yourself waffles, muffins, juices, coffee, milk, yogurts, etc.
2 areas of parking. next to the motel there is an area of parking for the beach. Behind the motel there is a incline ramp that is for motel parking. There is also some underground parking where access is front Fletcher ave and you park in spots that are not numbered. There is an elevator that goes down there.
Access to the beach is very easy. You can either go out the front desk and down the steps or go out by the parking lot and down the incline. Beach isn't crowded at all.
When we did rest in the room for the most part it was quiet. an ocasional motorcyle might fly by, an ocasional guest might slam their motel door but beyond that it was peaceful.
We would stay again if we come again. Fernandina beach old town is shy of 2 miles down the road. You want to use your vehicle to get there but it really isn't a bad drive. Fort Clinch entrance is about .25mile from the motel.
For us, it was a trip that didn't tire us out. It isn't hussle and bustle there. It is a relaxed carefree environment. We didn't overdue ourselves on tours and boatrides. I suppose you could overdue it.
I gave it 3/5 stars because other motels have better accomodations and the price to this one might be a bit steep for what you get but it is a good stay. price and what you get figure into it. It could be a 4/5 if the price did come down.
btw, I took a notice of the other motels in the area and their location to the beach. They were all across the streets and you had to walk a good block just to get to the beach but this was motels NORTH of Sadler road. Other Seaside is beachside. Otherwise all that line the beach are vacation houses. Reminds me somewhat of ST.Augustine beach.
