“Beautiful place off the beaten path”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We have been in Ivey House for just one night. The rooms are very clean and big, ours had two queen size beds. In the structure there is also a roofless pool. Breakfast is ok, with a good variety of food. The structure also offers free parking and free WiFi connection.

Definitively it was a good hotel, with just two things to notice: the price is a little bit expensive compared to others hotels of the same quality and that the location is out of the beaten path.

That's not a bad thing if you are going to spend some days in Everglades City, but if you are coming from Miami, you have already visited the Everglades and you are heading towards Sanibel or Tampa, it's better to drive an hour more and book an hotel on the west coast of Florida. Another thing is that Everglades City is very small, therefore there are no many shops and restaurants there.

At the end that's a beautiful and characteristic hotel, just consider where you are going and what you are going to do there before booking.

Room Tip: That's a good place, just consider your itinerary before booking in this city

Dear AleTrippin:
Thank you for taking time to tell others of our beautiful and charming Inn, and also for letting folks know that we are indeed located in a small town whose biggest asset is the wealth of outdoor activities available here in the Western Everglades, whether it's kayaking, hiking, fishing, bird watching or any of the other cool things there are to do here! It is definitely a place to "stay and play" as opposed to just passing through between other more concrete-big city areas! We hope you were able to get out and explore some of the many national park properties or refuges nearby, but if you didn't... we hope you'll come back and go exploring with us!

“Pricey, but very nice and best for miles around”

Echoing the comments of others (nice to see so much consistency!), the Ivey House is an excellent base from which to visit the surrounding Everglades, Big Cypress, and extreme southwest Florida coast. We compared this property with all the others in the area that we could find (by driving around and in our AAA book) and, though costlier than the others ($169/night vs. $75-$125), it was cleaner, prettier, and appeared much safer. During our stay, the staff was very helpful, the breakfast very good, the pool was beautiful, and the rooms were very clean, comfortable, and quiet. (Oh, and my wife liked the gift shop.) We would definitely stay there again (even at the higher price, though I do wish they'd lower it a bit!). As an aside, the National Parks Service 10,000 Island boat tour just down the road was beautiful, and the "Speedy Everglades Airboat Tours" next door was also very good.

“We rented a kayak from this establishment, and received great advice about local restaurants”

This is the best maintained property in Everglades City, which is overall kind of run down. My son and husband enjoyed the kayaking experience. I walked around the city and visited the parks center where they offer boat tours of the Everglades. If we came back to the Everglades we would probably stay at the Ivey House.

Room Tip: I think they are all well located. It is a sleep city so no problem with noise.

“Great value for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Our first trip to the Everglades brought us to the Ivey house. They offer a great package for rooms and excursions into the glades. The room was very clean and roomy. Breakfast was hot with lots of choices for a 'continental'. They made us box lunches both days which were really good. The only thing I can say not good was the pool could have been a little more heated since it was advertised as heated.

Dear BillMu3467:
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're very happy to hear you enjoyed one of our many packages, although I'm sorry our pool wasn't quite as warm as you had hoped. We keep the thermostat set at 78 degrees, hoping it will meet the needs of most of our guests while also keeping an eye on our energy usage... we're proud to be a Certified Green property and energy usage factors into that equation. (I totally understand your thoughts, though... as an almost lifelong Floridian, I like my pool water to be around 85 degrees!!)
Thanks again for staying with us: we hope we'll see you back here in the Everglades again sometime!

Ivey House is a perfect base from which to visit the Everglades. The staff was most helpful in suggesting hikes, boat trips and sites to visits. Good breakfast, fine rooms, nice pool.
