This was our third trip to Silver Shells with previous visits in 2004 and 2006. With some reviewers commenting on a decline in the property we were hoping for the best. Not to worry as we found the resort to be pretty much as we remembered it. The first thing in our favor was vacationing at the end of August when most kids are back in school. We felt as though we had the place and the beach to ourself. There was no longer poolside service but the Tiki Bar was open (limited hours). Most people packed coolers and brought their own beverages to the pool. We love the large pool area with hot tub and kiddie pool as well as the private beach for Silver Shells guests. There is a limitation that no personal umbrellas can be used in this area but you can bring your own chairs. Rental for two chairs and an umbrella seemed a little steep at $45/day or $225 for the week but we did it anyway. However, the chairs could only be used from 9-5. We found the beaches to be very clean and the water clear. We rented through VRBO so checkin was a breeze after getting a parking pass from the front gate. Our 3BR/3Bath condo was huge, recently renovated and very clean. Additional amenities include a great fitness room, tennis and basketball courts. We found all staff from the front gate to the security guards to be very helpful and friendly. Another thing we like about Silver Shells is the fact that it sits next to Henderson Park so you don't have anymore hotels or condos to one side of you. The location is right on Hwy 98 and near any shopping, grocery or restaurants you could want. While I imagine if the summer crowds are heavy things could be a little less relaxed, we had a great week at Silver Shells and wouldn't hesitate to return.
