“Good for off season”

This was our first trip to this resort. I am not big on resorts. I do not like big crowds, elevators, waiting in line for everything etc., but this wasnt the case at the Pelican. We went off season, September 15th, and I decided I will never go earlier than September ever again! As far as the resort, I enjoyed it. It was very clean, the lobby and around the elevators never got too wet. The elevators went pretty fast and seemed to be in good working condition. I counted, it only took 14 seconds to get from the ground level to the 10th floor. The rooms were nice, but weren't as well stocked as it would have been if we would have rented from a private party. No salt or pepper, no coffee filters and little things like that. There were however, two packs of dish washing detergent, soap in th bathrooms, eating utensils, a coffee pot and coffee and those basics. There was an iron there as well. If you get a one bedroom, there are no washer and dryers. They are in the hallway and cost $1 in quarters a piece.
We ate at the cafe in the resort and had pizza. It was good, but my brother in law went down there around 4:00 to get some stuff and it was closed? I dont know their hours, I didnt see them posted. The pool area was good, but the pool is very cold due to its location. It is located on the side on the resort, not on the beach, and by 2:00 we lost the sunlight at the pool. There is a large sun deck though and it stays sunny. There was a tiki bar located in between the pool and the beach. From the 10th floor it probably took me 3 minutes to get to the beach from our room.
The location is good, kind of in the middle of everything in Destin. About 5 minutes from the Destin Commons. One thing, especially if you go during peak season, HWY98 is very conjested with traffic. Speaking of peak season, you will really need to rent beach chairs. It is $22 a day for two chairs and umbrella. Because the beach area is so little they line the chairs up all along the ocean in a couple of rows. The first two days was ok, but on the third day we rented chairs just so we could see the ocean when we layed out.
All in all it was a good stay. I would recomment this place. I just loved that although very nice, it didn't have that big "resort" feel. It was very relaxing and very at home. I'm sure we will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the ON the beach have no pool view due to the pool being on side of resort. Higher floo...

“AWESOME”

This was our first time to Destin & the Pelican Beach Resort. . We loved our stay there! We were on the 15th floor with a beach front room and the view was beautiful. We got there 1 1/2 hr early & the front desk let us check in early. The room had everything we could need from the bedrooms to the kitchen. The only complaint I have is the wireless internet service is awful. I had to go to the lobby to use my Ipad & down load books to it. I hope they invest in a better internet service. We will be returning to stay there again. The rooms were clean and everyone were friendly.

“Excellent, excellent place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

I had stayed at the hotel when I was a teenager, but the memories lasted a lifetime! The pool was enjoyable (I taught my sister how to swim!) and the room wasn't half bad. The beds were comfortable, the tvs had good reception, and the bathroom was nice and clean. The room I had a balcony that overlooked the pool, and the Gulf of Mexico. The hotel was right on the beach, so that was a plus. It was a great summer vacation, and I'd recommend it to everyone!

Room Tip: The rooms on the side facing the beach are more quieter.

“Destin + Pelican Resort = Ideal vacation!”

My husband and I stayed at the Pelican Resort August 17-24th, and we really enjoyed it. Check-in was a complete breeze and we felt the staff was very helpful throughout the entirety of our stay. The resort itself is very well maintained. Everyday there were groundkeepers cleaning the surrounding area on our floor and main lobby. The pool was a nice break from the beach. It was cleaned daily and the temperature was perfect! It's a nice size to where even when it's busy, there's still plenty of chairs to choose from. My only complaint is that because of the location, you lose sun time around 1-2pm. But, we spent most of our time by the ocean so it wasn't too much of a problem. The beach does get crowded fast, but we would try to get down as early as possible to reserve a spot.
We stayed in room 1702 and it was really nice! Very modern and the kitchen had been recently updated so we enjoyed using that. We had an incredible view too! The resort is in a great location, with a nice covered parking garage -we never had a problem finding a space.
There is a little market located inside the resort that was very convenient. The prices were slightly high, but still, it was nice to have access to if you didn't feel like leaving. There are plenty of grocery stores and fast food joints around though to go to. All in all, it was a great trip and we will definitely be back! Thanks Pelican for making our stay a memorable one! :)

Good value and location. Beach gets very crowded. Pay for chairs or setup your own at sunrise
