My friends and I loved The Palms the first few times we stayed there for a Spinning & Knitting retreat in January. Not this time.
We checked in for the retreat Tues 1/24 and checked out that Sat 1/28. There was a bit more wear & tear on the room - a crack in the master bedroom wall which they asked to inspect while we were occupying the room, and the light fixture in the kitchen was hanging partially off and something on the roof rattled all night long loudly (we were on the 12th floor) and kept us awake - it WAS during a storm passage. We told them about it upon check out - a check out during which none of us three gals got a receipt - we all thought the other one had it.
But never in a million years did I expect to get an extremely brief email message ALMOST A WEEK LATER on Fri 2/3, that they were charging us $300 for damages to the microwave oven! A microwave oven that was working when we got there AND WORKING WHEN WE LEFT THAT SATURDAY MORNING. We know because two of us heated cups of water for tea and instant coffee respectively. THE MICROWAVE WAS WORKING.
I sent an email to the person from Abec and all people (Backe, Brown, Coleman & Burnham) she had copied and heard NOTHING. I suggested that since she wrote her email almost a week after check out that perhaps someone occupying the room after us damaged it if indeed it was damaged OR that perhaps they were referring to the missing microwave rack - WHICH I REPORTED TO THE FRONT DESK WED MORNING AFTER WE ARRIVEE. Actually I sent SEVERAL emails. This afternoon, I get my credit card bill and sure enough, they charged $300 to it - without sending me any other notice. I am preparing to dispute this with the card company, but since NOBODY at ABEC seems to be able or willing to respond, I am hoping someone here with respond with a correction and apology before I have to take this any further.
GENERAL MANAGER DO YOU EXIST AND WILL YOU RESPOND? Three middle-aged women on a spinning/knitting retreat are not going to damage a microwave oven and if we did, we would have the guts to report it.
We will NOT be staying here EVER again.
