“Back again...for our fourth year !”

Why would anybody want to rent an apartment for a month in Florida when for considerably less they can have the Residence Inn in Delray Beach?

Just a block from the beach with great ocean views, this hotel continues to be a terrific value for a long stay. Though the room rates have risen exponentially in the past four years and the hotel has gone up to a Marriott Category 5 (high for a Residence Inn), the property remains a decent value. Originally built as a condo property, the rooms vary is size, view and furnishings. Take a look at the room before you decide...some are better than others.

The daily breakfast (free) is an especially nice feature, although if you don't get up early (we're talking 7am) and the hotel is full, you'll wait for a table. Nice selection of hot breakfast entrees.

Parking is another serious problem...not bad during the day but totally inadequate when you return to the hotel if you've driven to dinner. We call them the parking wars! The Delray police patrol the (under cover) private lot (we don't believe that is legal) and will ticket you ($250) in the lot if you are an inch over the parking stripes. People do double park and finding a space can be a challenge. Instead, enjoy the more than 40 resturants that you can walk to on Atlantic Avenue. Priced from $ to $$$$- so there's something for everyone. The kitchens in each room are more than adequate and we've seen families on a budget bring take-out in and use the breakfast area in the lobby for dinner. The hotel can use a little sprucing up...it's beginning to show it's age and it's ownership should invest a few bucks in a general upgrading if they expect to continue to achieve the rates that they aspire to. A $400 walk-up rack rate for a Residence Inn, in season is HIGH...even though this location is unsurpassed. (Most guests pay considerably less). A special note to the excellence of the caring, professional staff, especially the General Manager who is everywhere all the time and gets to know most guests personally. The buck definitely stops with her and she lets you know it. She answers e-mails and calls....almost like a non-chain property used to be! Housekeeping is adequate, friendly and honest. One thing lacking (especially for a long term stay) is that there are no in-room safes. This should be an essential addition. The free in-room internet is a definite plus...it is FAST and reliable. There are also computers for your use in the lobby although their speed is like watching paint dry. Hotel security is excellent and you need your room key to enter from parking areas and the street except the main entrance all day. Pool can be noisy during family times (Christmas, President's Day) with many children. Oh...lastly...the beach! The best in South Florida and only a block away. Here's a tip...forget the guys on the beach who charge you an arm and a leg for a chair and also the stores on Atlantic who rent them for exorbitant charges. It's a public beach. On your way to the hotel stop at a Costco and BUY BEACH CHAIRS. It's will be MUCH cheaper and you can leave them behind when you depart if there is no room in the car or you are flying home. For the price of 2 days of rentals you can have your own chairs!

“Everything you need for a long stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Located just one block from the beautiful beach and on Atlantic Avenue, this hotel has an ideal location. A huge park with shaded playground is one block away as well and is the perfect place to take children on a hot day.

The staff was so friendly - everyone from the manager to the housekeepers to the bussboys were very kind and attentive. The maidservice was excellent. They cleaned our room top to bottom every day, wiping all surfaces and vacuuming in addition to the usual towel service and such. We shoved our pull-out bed blankets back into the linen bag and the maid refolded them for us. It's little things like that which show how thoroughly they work. Unfortunately there is no service elevator, so the staff is forced to use the general lift for their large cases. There are only two elevator areas in the entire building - one in the residence side and one in the apartment side. So, you might share an elevator ride with a huge service container. The staff is very nice about relinquishing the elevator for guests, but I do feel sorry for them having to deal with this.

Our room was quite large and spacious and came with everything needed for a long stay - dishes and cooking gear, ice maker, paper towels, microwave, range top, full-size fridge, mini-dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster. There is no conventional oven unfortunately. The bed linnens and towels are average. The hotel provides beach towels at the front desk, which is nice. The king bed was decent, but the pull-out couch bed was terrible. We didn't expect the pull-out to be great (they never are), but the mattress was in such terrible condition it had holes in it and in one place the end of a spring was poking through and scratched one of us. When we complained they sent someone up to remove the piece sticking out. And that was it. I would not count on an adult or older child getting anything like a good night's sleep on the pull-out. There was practially no noise from the hallway bothering us in our room and absolutely no noise from other suites. However, the soundproofing between the living area and bedroom is terrible. There is a vent between the two room through which light passes and of course noise does, too. It's almost as if there isn't a wall between the two rooms. There is no noise-privacy between the two rooms...so, if you want that sort of privacy, you'll have to go in the bathroom. (Where the shower is quite large!) Very disappointing considering everything else this hotel has going for it. Also, there are very good blackout curtains in the bedroom, but simple blinds in the living area so if you are sleeping there be prepared to be the early bird.

The complimentary shopping service deserves its own category. Absolutely wonderful as there are no grocery stores or pharmacies within a mile of the hotel. But, you won't miss it and will feel gloriously spoiled with the complimentary shopping service. You can write down your shopping list and turn it into the front desk and by 5:00pm the following day your groceries will be delivered to your room and they will even put your perishables away in the fridge. The bill is charged to the room and a copy of the receipt is left. We gave a very long and detailed shopping list and everything was purchased perfectly. What a great way to start a vacation!

The complimentary breakfast is above average, but not extravagant. It's the usual eggs, breads, breakfast meats, and beverages. A few special touches are the fresh whole fruit and the sliced fruit which are really good quality and they also make a very nice yogurt parfait with blueberry compote and granola. The buffet is very popular and busy at all hours. The food is in a small room which is very crowded and hectic. It would be good if the hotel would move the coffee station to another area to alleviate the traffic there. There is lots of seating, but it is still difficult to find a place to sit and eat. However, you can bring the tray from your room (under the coffee maker) and use it to carry food back to your own quiet room.

The hotel provided a pack'n'play and had a single high chair available at the breakfast buffet, but other than this there wasn't anything else child-friendly. There is no kiddie pool which is really a shame as we didn't see any adults using the pool at all. This area in general isn't really a family vacation destination and overall isn't very child-friendly, so it's not surprising the hotel doesn't cater more to families.

Overall it was a very nice hotel which lived up to our expectations and was quiet comfortable for our week-long vacation. We probably won't return to Delray Beach with our family again, but we would certainly consider staying at a Residence Inn at another more family-friendly location.

PROS
- Easy access to beach
- Close to restaurants
- Shopping service is complimentary
- Well-stocked kitchen
- Excellent maid service
- Friendly staff
- Good complimentary breakfast buffet
- Good soundproofing from hall and other suites

CONS
- no kiddie pool
- terrible pull-out couch bed
- No sound barrier between bedroom and living area
- Blackout curtains in bedroom only
- No service elevators

Room Tip: Some rooms have been renovated and some not. I would choose a renovated room over one with a good v...

“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We just spent 6 days at the Residence Inn. We loved the location on Atlantic Ave within walking distance to the quaint landmark cute city and beach of Delray Beach.
We had a comfortable room with a sitting area, big kitchen and large bathroom with a separate toilet area.
The bed was comfortable but when your partner moved, it felt like an earthquake hit.
The water power was weak for showers but the sink area large and practical.
The full kitchen area was very practical as well and unexpected.
The decor and furniture was what ruined the lodging since it was oldish and worn
unfortunately. The TV could have been updated as well.

Parking was easy and free contrary to the rest of the area.
The staff was excellent except at the breakfast area where tables could have been cleaned
more regularly.

The breakfast buffet was just OK.. The scrambled eggs dry and uneadible often, but the basics were there. Often no fresh fruit left . Unfortunately breakfast was officially only until 9:30 or 10 but one could arrive later so keep that in mind.
Although we didn't use the pool, it was fairly large with a jaquissi. The beach was lovely although jellyfish invaded and made swimming impossible. Go down the Dania beach if that happens. The gulf stream comes closest to the shore there so the water is warm but could get these fish and man o wars.
I would recommend staying here to be at Delray beach for an affordable price.

Room Tip: Not near elevator, top floor with ocean view

“Perfect for a longer stay”

This hotel had everything we needed as a family. Our baby loved the big, warm pool, the hot tub and with beautiful Delray Beach only a 5 minute walk away we were spoiled for choice! The hotel is also on the 'main strip' but away from the potential noise of the fun bars and great restaurants. Try the Office and Maxwell's Harvest for some great meals... the restaurants are just great here and all walking distance. The rooms are really nice and newly decorated on all but the ground floor...but because of the enormous size of the one-bedroom suite on the ground floor compared to the other one on offer on the 4th floor we went for the slightly older, but still very well appointed ground floor suite - which worked out perfectly as we didn't have to wait for the lift and I would just pass our baby over our balcony to my husband who was already poolside! The breakfasts were great - make your own waffles, eggs, sausages, yogurts, etc. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way trying to accommodate us. I highly recommend this hotel and in fact we have already booked another Residence Inn in Treasure Island for our next trip to Florida... you can't go wrong! PS. The receptionist gave us the number for her babysitter who said she wouldn't mind us posting about her babysitting service on TripAdvisor so if you need a babysitter, send me a message and I'll give you her number - she was great!

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor room for easy access to the pool.

“Good base in Delray!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Spent a long weekend in Delray Beach and the Residence Inn was a good choice. On Atlantic Avenue just block from the ocean and in the midst of the shops and restaurants. We had a one bedroom, which gave just that extra space. My friend had been there the year before and advised that the "new wing" had more space and better furniture. Good free full breakfast every day (with good coffee!) and very friendly and helpful staff. The free parking onsite was a plus, as was the free internet.
