Why would anybody want to rent an apartment for a month in Florida when for considerably less they can have the Residence Inn in Delray Beach?
Just a block from the beach with great ocean views, this hotel continues to be a terrific value for a long stay. Though the room rates have risen exponentially in the past four years and the hotel has gone up to a Marriott Category 5 (high for a Residence Inn), the property remains a decent value. Originally built as a condo property, the rooms vary is size, view and furnishings. Take a look at the room before you decide...some are better than others.
The daily breakfast (free) is an especially nice feature, although if you don't get up early (we're talking 7am) and the hotel is full, you'll wait for a table. Nice selection of hot breakfast entrees.
Parking is another serious problem...not bad during the day but totally inadequate when you return to the hotel if you've driven to dinner. We call them the parking wars! The Delray police patrol the (under cover) private lot (we don't believe that is legal) and will ticket you ($250) in the lot if you are an inch over the parking stripes. People do double park and finding a space can be a challenge. Instead, enjoy the more than 40 resturants that you can walk to on Atlantic Avenue. Priced from $ to $$$$- so there's something for everyone. The kitchens in each room are more than adequate and we've seen families on a budget bring take-out in and use the breakfast area in the lobby for dinner. The hotel can use a little sprucing up...it's beginning to show it's age and it's ownership should invest a few bucks in a general upgrading if they expect to continue to achieve the rates that they aspire to. A $400 walk-up rack rate for a Residence Inn, in season is HIGH...even though this location is unsurpassed. (Most guests pay considerably less). A special note to the excellence of the caring, professional staff, especially the General Manager who is everywhere all the time and gets to know most guests personally. The buck definitely stops with her and she lets you know it. She answers e-mails and calls....almost like a non-chain property used to be! Housekeeping is adequate, friendly and honest. One thing lacking (especially for a long term stay) is that there are no in-room safes. This should be an essential addition. The free in-room internet is a definite plus...it is FAST and reliable. There are also computers for your use in the lobby although their speed is like watching paint dry. Hotel security is excellent and you need your room key to enter from parking areas and the street except the main entrance all day. Pool can be noisy during family times (Christmas, President's Day) with many children. Oh...lastly...the beach! The best in South Florida and only a block away. Here's a tip...forget the guys on the beach who charge you an arm and a leg for a chair and also the stores on Atlantic who rent them for exorbitant charges. It's a public beach. On your way to the hotel stop at a Costco and BUY BEACH CHAIRS. It's will be MUCH cheaper and you can leave them behind when you depart if there is no room in the car or you are flying home. For the price of 2 days of rentals you can have your own chairs!
