Okay, I used to stay at this hotel a long time ago, when it was known as the Seagarden Inn. Now, it is called the Islander, but not much has changed about it. I was a little reluctant to return, after reading the reviews on this site, but decided to take a chance. Let's go over some facts here: You're paying around $65 a night for an ocean front hotel that's right on the beach that features a free continental breakfast, a large pool and a hot tub, a other things. You can't find a good deal like that anywhere else, and remember you get what you pay for. Honestly, the rooms are clean, the beds are nice and soft. We had a problem where we were woken up at 5 in the morning by a loud squeaking sound via our neighbors deciding to take a shower, but the staff was quick and efficient, and took care of the problem immediately. I can't honestly understand why people bad mouth this hotel like they've been doing. It's a great deal, but I guess people are just going to complain.
The only complains I could find were that the indoor pool is all but usable. I mean that they're apparently doing maintenance on it or something, but I never saw them touch it once. the game room is also a little...well, disappointing. The claw machine is weak and can't pick up anything, the shooting game is poor as you have to basically put the barrel onto the screen to play, but the crazy taxi, pacman (that's my high score, btw) and the air hockey were enjoyable.
You're also right across the street from a Denny's, an IHOP, a Red Lobster, and a large gift shop. The beach in front of the hotel is great, seeing as it isn't as crowded as the other parts of the strip was great.
Honestly, I think that people hate this hotel for the sake of hating it. Aside from my nitpicking, I can't wait to come back. The staff is friendly, the rooms are nice (the bathroom's small as possible, but it's okay), you get a kitchenette, and the price is cheap. I will definitely return.
Room Tip: Pet's are allowed, but they put you on the lower floors.
