“Lovely old home welcomes you”

My husband and I stayed at the August Seven Inn in January, 2012. Our charming host, Joseph, welcomed us and showed us around the house. This house has tremendous history as it was the guest house of the Gambles of Proctor & Gamble fame. One can only imagine all the fancy people who have passed through these doors. Joseph serves a modest breakfast which is the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five. Most B&Bs we have stayed in served memorable breakfasts--one was a three course meal! Here you will find pancakes and eggo waffles you can warm in the microwave as well as fruit, etc. It was not what we had in mind so we went up the street each day to different diners for a heartier breakfast. However (and it's a big however), I had asked Joseph for decaf coffee and he had a large carafe of it for me each morning. The other slight negative is the location on a busy corner. As noted by others, we heard the garbage trucks early in the morning and the motorcycles 24/7. This same location is alos a postive though as you are within a few blocks of the beach. And there's plenty of parking for the inn.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the corner on two streets would be quieter than ours.

“Home away from home”

I had a living social deal here and loved it! The house was so comfortable and impeccably clean. Joe is such a wonderful host. My friend and I were sightseeing and working out a lot so we weren't homebodies but we got to sample Joe's awesome home made dessert using the "turn down" special. YUM! I didn't see anyplace in Daytona as nice as this is! Spoiled now...won't be going anywhere else there...see you soon Joe!

Room Tip: King suite in the Carriage House is extremely comfy!

“Nice bed dissapointing breakfast”

My husband and I are Florida residents and decided to take a weekend getaway for ourselves in the midst of a very hectic holiday season, which is also my husbands birthday. Secondary to a deal we found on living social we decided on the August 7 Inn. We liked the house very much and thought it was quaint and homey. Joe was a bit quiet but kind. Ive read that many people enjoy him but my impression was more of a man who stayed out sight and behind the scenes. In our short 2 night stay we hardly saw him at all. Although we are Florida residents suggestions on activities and restaurants from Joe would have been nice and appreciated especially since our visit was during an "off season". We did like the nice carrot cake left in our room and the efforts Joe took to keep our bottle of wine chilled throughout our stay.

Ive also read reviews that other guests purchased living social deals and even though I did as well I feel as though I over paid considering the value others have gotten. For our 2 night stay we paid close to 300. Although the room prices in the Inn state that my room was normally 300 a night I cant even imagine paying that for the provided accommodations. My gripes with the the stay are that although the Inn was nice I don't feel like its quite as advertised. The sound machine in our room was more of a nuisance with static noise more than soothing sounds. Our room was also located close to the street and on the weekend noise was not a problem however on a Monday morning you can hear all of the traffic and garbage men around the Inn. Although the room including amenities such as a jetted tub, the tub in our room ran out of hot water almost as soon as we turned it on.

The continental breakfast was disappointing. There were frozen Eggo waffles, pancakes that tasted freezer burned, and basic toast and jam. The fresh fruit offered is placed out in such a small serving bowl that if you would like a hearty helping you would be eating the entire portion leaving nothing for other guests. The whole fruits served are basic apples and oranges which although they provide sustenance are hardly appetizing. Although the food provided meets the definition of a continental breakfast for a "luxury" Inn I expected more such as fresh waffles and pastries over the frozen and packaged items served. The coffee was great and I liked the selection of hot tea.

Overall I do like the Inn and for the right priced deal I would return. I just feel the Inn lacks the luxury component it advertises and is more along the lines of a warm and cozy Inn.

I appreciate your review…As I tell all my guest, contact me if there is anything you need…I even have a separate ring tone for guests in house….I noticed you mentioned the sound machine, it does have more than one setting, static is one selection that can be made …I have had many people stay in the inn since your review and use the jet tub without an issue, I wish you would have contacted me to let me know perhaps I could have assisted you with it….I also wanted to address the breakfast, there is a small note ( in order to be tasteful) that you might have missed…It’s on the breakfast rack and it states… small quantities of food are set out in order to keep things fresh, if for some reason I’m not around to restock, please contact me and I will take care of it immediately…I usually check the breakfast every couple of minutes to make sure that has not happened…additionally I usually tell everyone at breakfast in addition to when they arrive if there is anything you need please let me know…As for the frozen items, this comes down to pleasing everyone. I have frequent hotel travelers on a regular basis, they often prefer frozen, so I offer frozen for them as well as the fresh French toast, pancakes, usually 4 sometimes 5 home baked goods…I hope you will be back again, the rates you mentioned reflect the high season, and as far as bed and breakfast go in general, my low season prices are far below the average, as you mentioned you paid less than 150.00 a night for the room you had chosen…

“Clean and Elegant Inn with Superb Host”

I was on business last week and stayed at this delightful B&B. First let me say that Joe is a first class innkeeper, warm and goes beyond the call of duty to assist guests with suggestions for dining or anything else. The bed was soooo comfortable. Im not a breakfast person so I just had coffee in the intimate dining room. This inn is near everything: the beach, beautiful Beach Drive with its shops and dining. I highly recommend it.

“Alright place to stay”

We stayed in the 1022 room. Positives: Beautifully decorated room. African theme (although the Japanese lanterns over the tub was bizarre). The bed was very comfortable and the inside of the house is beautiful. Joe was very nice. He made dinner reservtions for us at the Chart House and brought carrot cake to our room the 1st night. Very Good! Negatives: The tub didnt drain, so we stood in above ankle deep water while showering. Also, the blinds were old and curled in at the sides, so there wasnt the privacy we desired. Breakfast was below average for a B&B. Landscaping / curb appeal needs TLC. They advertise massage chairs, however they charge $10 to use them. Joe did off us a discount of $5 since we purchased through Living Social.

As with all my guests I tell them upon check in if they have any questions or need anything to call or text me, each guest receives my cell number to text, unless of course they do not text, then the inn number is sufficient....This guest was no exception..

They mentioned value, these guests were in on a living social my now ex business partner had run, their cost per night was under seventy dollars. My former business partner had run this., for multiple reasons, and most guest that have stayed at regular price have felt that that the inn is a great value if not excellent and almost all at the Living Social rate have felt it’s an exceptional value.....
There is an additional charge for the desserts and turn down service, and I had the time and desire so I made free deserts for all the guests in house, I cannot do this all the time as it is just myself doing everything from the lawn mowing to the baking , and I appreciated them acknowledging my extra efforts...

I offer a Continental breakfast which, at the time or their certificate purchase was an additional charge option for all guests… I have changed that and included it for regular priced guests and depending on the time of year or price some discounted , that being said it was not part of their particular living social certificate, but I decided to include it for all… it includes some pre made items for the more hotel based traveler(as I get allot of them and want them to be comfortable), and some homemade items for the more bed and breakfast based traveler...The morning that these guests were in I had 2 homemade baked goods, I also had waffles(chocolate chip, strawberry, buttermilk, blueberry) pancakes (buttermilk, blueberry, maple) 3 kinds of cold cereals, two fresh cut fruits, 2 whole fruits in a basket, 5 kinds of hot cereal options, coffee, tea, and 2 juice options....

They mentioned a couple of maintenance issues, as with any lodging things can occasionally arise, and no one including the owner is happy when it occurs. This was once Gambles, of Proctor and Gambles, guest house from the 1800’s it's a 100 plus year old structure located beachside and I do my best to keep it in the best condition possible, that said I found out about the tub issue only after reading the post as no mention was made during any part of their 3 day 2 night stay … It was resolved in a couple of minutes right after reading the post, as it was a simple fix..The shades and privacy issue, I would not have had an issue with as I simply would not have thought anyone street level, as this is on the second floor, would have taken pause and tried to stare into the second floor windows with a small opening that had presented from heat on a shade issue…with Florida heat this can happen from time to time..they have been re- rolled and situation rectified, all of which would have been resolved while they were here had they simply mentioned..

I am not sure why they were offended by the limited time half price sale I offered on the tranquility room, I told them, as I tell most (unless l see excitement in them, as many people get excited when they see them as they are quite fun) that there is no need for concern if they are not interested but should you be interested I will give you some quick information, feel free to contact me should you desire further instruction...the entire showing was well under a minute.... Additionally I would like to say if anyone reading this would find it offensive to get the instructions on them, as they stated they did, please simply ask me to skip showing you...

I truly care about my guests, and of course you cannot please every single one, there’s always going to be one or two, that for whatever reason will not be happy.. I cannot even blame them as I have never met anyone that was happy all the time, we have all had our moments.…but I do my best to try to please all my guests… I truly cannot sell anything that I do not believe in...That said, I believe in this …it’s a great place to stay, and I believe it’s great for Daytona Beach and its community to have this inn and this building as do so many others, I hear it all the time..….
