First let me say that this is technically not a hotel. Most all of the units in the Castaways are privately owned condos. If you choose to rent a unit for a few days you are expected to abide by the same rules that condo owners must obey. Some unit owners do allow their condo to be rented as hotel rooms but you may expect limited services and yes, even supply your own ice for your drinks. The only duties we could make out for the ladies at the reception desk were to answer the telephone and to handle incoming mail for the residents. They were only on duty during the day and only on week days.
We chose to rent the Penthouse (723) for a period of two weeks from the owner and were perfectly happy with our choice. Comparing our unit rental with the cost of motel rooms in the area made our choice seem like a steal. The unit was huge with every convenience that we could ask for. Yes, there was the matter of a failing coffee pot and a balky bathroom tub water control - plus we had to carry out our own garbage just like the owners did. We loved this unit with its extra large balcony overlooking the ocean and hope to be able to book it next year if our time frame of travel permits
We chose twice to have a drink and a sandwich at the Mango's Bar and Grill which is attached to the Castaways. We found the bar tender friendly, the drinks reasonably priced and the sandwiches were excellent. I couldn't resist their half pound hamburgers with all the trimmings.
All in all I would recommend a stay at the Castaways for those planning a longer stay than just a few days. As I reported above, this is technically not a hotel and is not for those who must have every whim cared for. We do strongly recommend that you speak to the owner of the Penthouse and perhaps you will be lucky enough to get your booking satisfied.
