Upon first glance, one might be tempted to turn away, but "you can't judge a book by its cover!" Stayed here for one night and will definitely come back again. The room was huge and had everything you could want for a vacation at the beach. We especially appreciated the full kitchen including refridgerator, stove (with oven) and microwave. They even provided the diswashing soap! The room was spotless as well as the bathroom.

If you are looking for a great place to stay away from the crowds of Daytona, this is the place. The oceanfront balcony was worth its weight as well. The pool was sparkling. Again, we will definitely be back and the next time we'll stay a lot more than one night. I see a week's vacation here in our future.

I researched a while before booking here. I wanted a place on the beach w/ a beachfront room that wasn't too expensive since this was a spur of the moment trip. Husband and I spent 3 nights here and were very pleased for the price, especially after reading some of the reviews. We stayed in 305 which was a 2 double bed oceanfront efficiency.

The room was definitely dated; balcony chairs could stand to be replaced, but for $75/night it was worth it. They also charge you $5/night parking, and $1.50/night if you use the safe, but they explain that the safe charges can be removed when you check out if you don't use it. For the price, a continental breakfast is included. The hotel is partners with the property next to it (palm plaza?) so you go next door to check in and eat breakfast. Breakfast included cereals, muffins, bagels or toast, hardboiled eggs, donuts, and juices/milk/coffee. An economical way to start the day!

Because the two motels are partners, you have use of either pool. The pool with the Beachside goes to 8' deep, the other only 6 I believe. The Beachside pool was never crowded which was nice also, and every morning I saw them at 6 am or so cleaning the outside pool areas.

The only negative about the room was it had somewhat of a funky smell, but it wasn't too noticeable after you were there-only initially. Also, the hotel used your room key to open outside doors, but the doors usually were not shut tight anyway.

Overall, I'd recommend this place; people were very helpful; they even printed out our boarding passes on the last day. They also offer a "linger longer" plan where you pay more to check out late-we checked out at 3pm so that we could enjoy the beach/pool for longer, and I think it cost $20? more that day to do so.

June 22-June 27, 2008. We read some good and some bad reviews on the Beachside before our arrival. Beachside Plaza is associated with the Palm Plaza next door, and you check in there. We liked staying at the Beachside, because it was smaller (30+ rooms), so there is less waiting for the elevator and fewer people at the pool, even though guests from each place can use both facilities. See photos. Here's the Pros and Cons.... Pros: BEACHFRONT with balcony, large enough room, full fridge, mini-stove, table for 4, room air purifier, one pool heated & other one not, wide sand beach, SMOKE FREE building smells clean, nice to be able to cook a pizza or fry eggs and eat in, plaster walls make rooms almost sound-proof. Cons: building old, needs maintenance, pools need cleaned & chemicals lacking (oil/lotion film left tacky feel in hair, suit), have to go to Palm Plaza for cont. breakfast-very limited food selection, maids "make" the beds but only change sheets when you ask them to-if staying multiple nights, towels can be limited, supplied beach towels very thin, no business center/printer available for use, room safe $1.50/day, parking $5/day, surf and undertow make ocean swimming difficult but boogie-boarding fun.
NOTE: no lights allowed on balcony or beach at night due to Sea Turtle habitat. Daytona Beach Shores has less crime and better patrolled than Daytona Beach.

Upon approaching this place I thought it was a joke! The outside is a horrible pink color and looks like it was built over 50 years ago. The location is terrible...several blocks from all the "action" on Atlantic Ave. As soon as we got off the elevator a terrible STINK filled the hallway...it felt like the air conditioning had not been running for months. We got into the room and it was even worse. The smell was awful, it was oceanfront yes...but geeze. The gaudy green carpet was damp and the bathrooms were not up to par as far as cleanliness goes.

We booked this hotel through hotwire-which guaranteed a 2.5 star rating (according to hotwire other 2.5 star hotels include holiday inn express' etc...), we were only going to be there for one night so we didn't care. Well, our story changed! We went to the front desk to ask about a refund - nope! So we drove down the ways and stayed at the Hilton.

I cannot believe this place is still even running. As a family of four (two children under two years old) I would never recommend another family or couple stay there. If you are in your teens and want to get away for a night or two with some friends and get drunk and don't care at all about stench or cleanliness...then this is the place for you!

I would never stay here again - and am seriously considering making it my life's mission to let people know how absolutely horrible this hotel truly was!!
