I needed 1 regular room and 1 handicapped accessible room for my mother who is in a wheelchair and can not walk because of her ALS. We weren't looking for the Taj Majal but something cost effective, close to the mall and speedway was great. I called the hotel asked if they had ADA rooms and yes they did so, I reserved both rooms a few months in advance on choice.hotels.com. This was going to be a great weekend for all of us. My husband finally had his '73 Stingray Corvette finished after 15 years and was going to show his car for the first time at the Turkey Rod Run with the local car club with my dad as his guest. My mother & I were going shopping at the mall which we haven't done that in years because of her condition. I called to re-confirm about a week prior to arrival and they said yes I have a handicapped room. I checked-in our room and asked if my second room was a handicapped accessible room. Yes, they said but, it wasn't ready yet. That was ok because my parents were not on their way yet. They were pretty close tobether too which was good. We went to our room and there were roaches in kitchen. We called the Front Desk, they sprayed it and moved us to another room on the other side the the bldg. It was a better room too. Later I checked-in my parents room and it did not have a king bed or nor was it handicapped accessible either. I went to the Front Desk and they acted like I was just SOL, everyone was checked in and they were sold out. I explained that I had done eveything that I could to make sure that this didn't happen. I told them that my mother can not walk and I need a handicapped room. The manager Tony acted as if it was my problem and it didn't come thru their reservations system correctly. I told him that I have called to re-confirm twice and your clerks told me that I would have a handicapped room when I checked in today too. The male desk clerk said "Well I guess must have been bouncing around?" How pathetic is that? All they could do is stare at the computer screen and shrug their shoulders. They really ruined the mood for the weekend. I knew this would set my father off but, I finally had to call my father who was on the way from GA with my mom and tell him about it. He called them and I'm sure he wasn't gentle about it but, they have to understand that going on vacation for my parents with a wheelchair bound mom takes alot of preparation and I should have gotten what I reserved! They gave us a $70 credit and magically were able to switch rooms the next day. We appreciate the $70 credit but this should never had happened. The female desk clerk did try to give us 4 more pillows but they were out of them so she gave us a brand new blanket instead because that's all they had. Yes, we did stay there because it was alot cheaper than the other surounding hotels but that does not make up for the miss managment and poor guest service that they provided. Someone threw a brick threw one of the windows the last night we were there too. Not sure what that was all about. I also have a feeling this hotel does accomodate section 8 housing which is scary to see the thugs hanging out around the hotel and other less fortunate people wandering around too. For a weekend of partying with the guys it would have been fine especially with the location right down the street from the speedway.
