We checked in around 9 PM, went to our room and heard the air conditioner sounding like a stock car was revving in the room. Returned to Check In and requested a different room. Was told they were sold out and would have a repairman fix the AC. It took over an hour and two trips by the repairman, but he replaced the entire unit while we sat there - it was after 10PM with few options for alternate activity. The repairman was good and the new unit was quiet. I couldn't help noticing the bank of rooms across the walkway with dark windows. Figuring most people who were going to buy a room that night would probably be there, I went on-line to see if I could book a room that night in this sold out Ramada. Not a problem, had my choice of room configurations. My family could have gone to bed earlier with a customer friendly room change. Between showers and other preparations, kids going first, etc, I got to bed around midnight instead of the 10:30 I was planning. With 6 hours of driving the next day, the extra sleep would have been useful. Getting sleep was the only reason we were there. Waking up in the morning to sounds of stock cars ripping around the oval down the street was kind of cool for everyone. Going to bed much later than needed because of lying and lazy front desk workers, not so cool. I learned, if i ever need a room change again, I'll take my laptop to the Front Desk to enable me to challenge the old "we're sold out" line.
