While this is an older HGI property, still the rooms and public areas are well maintained, and we found our three night's stay here to be comfortable and fine for my wife and myself. Arriving about 1 PM, we had to wait for half an hour for our room (note that regular checkin time is 3 PM) and we were assigned a room on the second floor, as our smoking preference was noted (we're both cigarette smokers), and our request for extra coffee and sugar in the room was always there each day. Room was kept clean and neat by housekeeping, and the HGI bed was excellent for a good night's sleep. No adjustment of the bed's firmness needed, and my wife commented on how comfortable it was.
Breakfast in the hotel dining area was complimentary for us (Hilton Honors Gold & Diamond members get the comped breakfast), while other guests pay, I think, $12.95 per person. Standard buffet breakfast, with choices of egg dishes. pancakes, waffles, and all the breakfast meats and breads. Tip: If you like "eggs over", order them over well, as our orders of eggs over medium brought eggs that were too runny, and not cooked to the "medium" style we like.
Otherwise the restaurant staff were friendly and helpful and efficient.
Evening dinner in the restaurant had a limited menu, but sufficient if you didn't have a car or didn't want to search for a restaurant nearby.
We found all the staff to be professional, courteous, and helpful throughout our stay, with a smile and hello each time.
Several fast food outlets close by, and a small shopping mall across the street, but nothing immediately near if you want larger malls or restaurants, so you'll need a car, although the airport shuttle driver said they would take you to nearby restaurants after 4 PM for no charge (tip expected of course), and pick you up from them after your meal.
Didn't see lots of "cruise people" during our three night stay during the week, but on Friday when we were checking out, the lobby was filled with lots of people arriving for their overnight stay before their Saturday cruises, so note that the lobby and checkin can be very busy during those times. We also saw some airline's flight deck crew staying at the hotel, probably because of its proximity to the airport.
The cookies in the lobby after 5 PM are delicious, and we wish they were left out earlier for a snack.
All in all, a good stay, with a comfortable, clean room and a friendly, helpful staff, at a reasonable rate for this time of year in Florida. Not near all the "action" of Fort Lauderdale, so you'll need a car for exploring, but still good for cruise people or if you have business in the area.
Room Tip: High speed internet is free for Hilton Gold and Diamond members, as is the breakfast buffet. Shuttle...
