There are times when you need a room pronto. Not all trips are for pleasure. This was the case for my stay at Hampton Inn in Dade City. Shocking news of my mother's passing put my family into a situation of traveling for the funeral from points across the USA. As we are a large family, one of my sibs who lives in Dade City, had to make arrangements to have some of us stay in a hotel---thus, the stay at this particular Hampton Inn. Normally, I am a total Marriott person. However, in this situation, I was not going to have a hissy-fit about the place to stay.
When we arrived, which was in the evening, we were greeted at the front desk by a very amiable and cordial young man. The people at the front desk were great. The lobby area was very nicely decorated and extremely clean. As we went to our rooms, I noticed the hallways were also extremely clean and the carpeting lush and the place nice and quiet. Our rooms were on an equal par with a Marriott. Really. I'm not kidding. My daughter and I had a nice-sized room. The bathroom had quite the generous supply of towels--and I'm telling you since the ecomomy plummetted, I've noticed that one item hotel chains have cut back on is towels--not so here. The bathroom was very well-equipped with toiletries as well. Nothing seemed thrifty here. We had a room with two double-sized beds and they were extremely comfy and clean to boot. The room was also equipped with a TV, but quite honestly, we didn't even turn it on. We really were not spending that much time in the rooms. However, the room was just extremely comfortable. A free breakfast was included--naturally it was a buffet, serve-yourself type of breakfast and was fine. The oatmeal was fresh and there was plenty of it. (I'm an oatmeal fanatic--really. truly. honestly). The accompaniments for the oatmeal were abundant. Eggs, sausage, fillings for bagels. Hampton Inn also had coffee that actually tasted like coffee---how could you not love that???? The dining area, although small was very comfortable and the staff working the dining area was cheerful and cordial as well. Props to Hilton for having such a great place. I'll tell you, I would definitely, absolutely stay in a Hampton Inn again. No complaints at all. We spent 2 nights at the Dade Cty Hampton Inn in Dec with family we have not seen in a while, so we spent a lot of time in the sitting area, chatting. The owner offered us beverages and playing cards, and went out of his way to make us feel at home. The rooms were exceptionally clean, the breakfast was awesome, and the staff was friendly. It was like home away from home! 5 stars!

I’m a fan of Hampton Inns. I like the fact they clean all their bed linen. Call me crazy but clean is the top priority for me when I stay in hotels. This Hampton is actually a bit older property. It was very spacious and convenient to the nearby university. It’s next door to a late night Wendy’s which I especially appreciated since it was past ten and I hadn’t had dinner. The only complaint I have about the room itself was that the shower was past its prime and really needed to be replaced. It was one of those old tile ones at floor level with a plastic sliding door and no tub. It had those grungy hard water stains around the base and the calking was dirty. The water pressure was just okay but I’d think twice about staying there just due to the shower.

The next morning I had an early appointment so I was thinking I’d come back to the hotel, work until noon and then take an hour to get to the airport, drop off my rental car and still have plenty of time for my flight. So I’m in the middle of a work project when my phone rings and it’s the front desk asking me if I planned to check out. “Yes, at noon” I replied. “Well” she says “checkout is at 11:00 AM and we actually need you to leave because the housekeeping staff is at your end of the hall so they’re ready to clean now.” Last I checked don’t those housekeeping carts have wheels on them that allow you to move to another section of the hotel to clean? Wait a minute. I thought they had a noon checkout time. When I asked her she says “I don’t know why everyone thinks that,” Oh, I don’t know maybe because every other hotel in the country has at least a noon checkout? Okay, I try to pull the Hilton Honors card on her but she wasn’t having it. Even the Diamond level Honors members don’t get a late checkout she tells me (her voice tone indicating I clearly wasn’t even close to that level). “Do you ever accommodate late checkouts” I ask her. “Can you let me have a noon checkout today?” “Well sometimes if we’re not full we can.” I just wait her out and she reluctantly agrees as long as I make every effort to get out ASAP. I finally just close everything down and leave the hotel. Her attitude irked me. When I get to the parking lot they have 9 cars in the parking lot (including mine). So unless this is a 7 bed hotel (allowing for her and at least one housekeeping staff) then they certainly weren’t full. There are not a lot of options in Saint Leo and I won’t just write off the hotel on just this one bad experience but “friendly” is not their middle name. Frankly it may not even be a nickname.

Excellent accomadations! We had planned on staying 1 night but stayed 2 nights because we liked it so much. The staff was incredible. Rooms were very clean and comfortable along with having a great breakfast. This hotel is highly recommended. Everyone went above and beyond to please us! 5 stars
