I have stayed at TripAdvisor properties many times. This was the first highly rated property I found to be disappointing. First, the good news: the people are nice, and the pool area and view of the nearby marina is pleasant. Now the disappointing news: there is a HUGE construction project next door with about a 10 story hulking concrete building going up between the Sea Captain and Clearwater Beach - which the out-of-date picture on the website notably doesn't show. There is also an empty lot across the street that looks like its been cleared for construction - so on two sides it's not a vacation paradise. And the main beach area is a good two city blocks away from the motel - which also was not obvious from the website. As far as the rooms go, they were mostly clean, but our bath had pitted chrome fixtures and a couple of tears in the wallpaper - the tired look you might find at an elderly aunt's house. Perhaps this place gets good reviews because it is relatively inexpensive. If that is what appeals to you, the Sea Captain may be for you, but if you are looking for a more memorable beach-side vacation away from city construction, look elsewhere in Clearwater Beach.

We were so sorry to hear of your unpleasant experience during your stay with us. There is indeed a 10-story hotel being built to our west, where 2 older hotels once stood for many years until this spring. Also, they are putting in a parking lot directly across the new hotel on the southeast corner, and both projects should be finished very soon. However, we have no control over the construction and we're doing our very best to ensure our guests are comfortable. While we are only 100 yards from Clearwater Beach and the famous Pier 60, we are an older property, built in 1952-1953. We consistently win the coveted White Glove Award yearly for our cleanliness and work very hard to maintain every aspect of our facility, and hope our guests feel comfortable enough to alert us to anything that may need repair or attention. Please accept our most sincere apologies, and we hope that you will give us another try!
