We chose this hotel because we didn't want to be on Gulf-to-Bay Road or US 19 and this seemed to be the best alternative. The surrounding area is a bit run down, but the walk along the water on a nice pedestrian or bike pathway was really pleasant - I got to the edge of Dunedin in just over 20 minutes at an easy pace. There are several nice restaurants along Main St. and we enjoyed Cafe Alfresco and Schuler"s Ice Cream very much.
The hotel itself is really quite mundane and poorly presented. The desk clerk was pleasant enough, but in need of a shave and a tucked in shirt to look a bit more professional. The check out lady was much the same. The lobby is small and a little cluttered. The pool was tiny and very unappealing - some old deck lounge chairs scattered about, and fenced in from the parking lot, kind of Bates Motel style. There was an old mini-golf course which was a nice touch, but the felt looked like it had been applied in 1957 and never changed.
The room itself was a decent size, the idea of a "suite" being a large room with a nice arch that separates the room into 2 sections. It was very clean and painted fairly recently. The bed was fine and we didn't notice any noise.
The complimentary breakfast was pretty good. Better than the standard continental breakfast, since there was scrambled egg (pretty good) and sausage (didn't try it) in addition to the regular stuff (including waffles).
The rate was quite good ($55 + tax Carp rate), so it was a decent value, but the overall impression was a bit on the depressing side..
