We've stayed at the Chart House several times over the past 3-4 years. If you have a bigger group, the Penthouse on the 4th floor has a huge common area and terrific balcony! We've also stayed in the 1 BR (suite?) on the 2nd floor, again with a balcony facing the bay. You HAVE to be on the bay side. The views are great! Afternoon and evenings are shaded (because the balconies face north), and you overlook the yacht club sailboats, with a bay 'finger' in front of you -- fancy houses across the way -- , and the intercoastal off to your right. Pelicans fly in line right overhead. I prefer this view to ANY ocean front view. Now, the funrishings are fine, but not terribly fancy. And we usually drive to the beach (5 minutes away), but it is walkable if you're very hardy. But anyhow, back to the penthouse, it has a master bedroom with large private bath, and a second room with 2 double (maybe queen) beds, and a 3rd tiny room with a pullout sofa bed. The dining room, living room, and kitchen are very generous in size. We've stayed here with my 2 kids and in-laws, and there is more than enough room. The Chart House is in a very quiet section of Clearwater Beach (you WILL appreciate this when you try to sleep!), but it's very close to the livelier sections. But we always have a car when we're here... if you don't have a car, this might not be the best choice. Pool is nothing great, but at least there is one.

Situated next to the local yacht club, this property provided great views of the water. While we usually chose a Gulf-side hotel, my family was comfortable and we didn't mind driving 2 minutes to the beach.

The room decor was nautical in theme and a sunny yellow and blue. The bedding was fine and linens clean. With the incredible humidity in FL the area properties could use bathroom fans -- when will they catch on?

Our kids still talk fondly about this property and were intrigued by the "caution, manatees" signs on the docks, not that we actually spotted any. But they still remember this place fondly and for a teen brother and sister, that helps add up to a successful vacation.

BEWARE!!! This hotel requires you to sign a BLANK credit charge slip in addition to the charge slip for your room. When I questioned the blank charge credit slip with my credit card # on it, I was told this is incase I break anything or I incure any extra charges during my stay. This was NOT a credit card authorization nor was it a security deposit, it was a BLANK CREDIT CHARGE SLIP. Since I REFUSED to sign the blank charge slip, I was told I was not welcome to stay there. If you sign a BLANK charge slip, you are taking a BIG RISK! DON'T DO IT! They can write any amount on the slip and you are responsible for the charge since you "signed" it! I was never told in advance that I would be expected to sign this blank slip. As a result, I had to scramble looking for a new place to stay during my vacation! Fortunately I found the Days Inn down the street that had the exact same accomodations, was closer to the beach, was extreamly clean and had the same views plus they served breakfast. I also saved $25 a night staying at the Days Inn.

Nice from the outside, not too bad but some problems. Large room and large balcony, but slightly tacky and rough around the edges. 0.7 miles to nearest beach but on a pretty harbour. Problems: bath had a crack, no remote control for TV, linen in bags along the corridors on arrival at 6 PM, and 1 cockroach (OK only 1 but maybe even that's too many...)
