My first stay here, about 3 weeks ago, happened because the hotel I usually stay in was booked. This hotel is not convenient to my destination, and the location doesn't seem to have much going for it. The neighborhood seems "iffy". That being said, this hotel is so comfortable, I stayed there again during the past week.
This hotel is clean and quiet. I feel comfortable here and even though it is a 25 minute drive from my business destination, I will be returning.
As a platinum Marriott, I try and stay in Marriotts whenever possible. My wife and I were taking a dinner cruise out of Clearwater Marina and decided to reserve a hotel room so that afterwards, we would not have to drive the 90 minutes home. The Residence Inn Downtown Clearwater came up and was a part of the weekend specials so we got a very good rate and a very spacious room. (King bed, guest room). If one is seeking to be near the beaches but not on them and save a few dollars, this is a good hotel to choose. Free parking. Very clean room. Only 5 to 10 minutes driving from the beaches. Easy to get back onto Route 60 to head back to Tampa. I have only two fairly minor negatives - When I arrived just before 4:00 PM, there was no one at the front desk for 4 minutes. (I know, a bit nitpicky but I expect people at the front desk). The other thing was the inroom internet (whether I chose wireless and wired) was inconsistent, usually slow, and sometimes almost unusable. Othwerise, this is a fine hotel and I highly recommend staying here if one is looking something just off the beaches and for a good value.
My husband , kids and I stayed here for four nights the week of NYE. It was a nice hotel and very clean. The free breakfast was very good and we especially enjoyed the kitchen in our room. The hotel staff said the pool was heated, but it was chilly.
The only thing to know in advance is that this hotel isn't really within walking distance of anything except a custard shop. It is close to Downtown Clearwater (not to be mistaken for the beach) which has nice restaurants.
We flew into Orlando and drove to Clearwater. The drive is approx 1 1/2 hours so it was a nice way to split the trip.
We would recommend this hotel to everyone especially those who want their pets to have an excellent stay. The staff were extremely friendly and service oriented. Our family of 4 and a handsome Labrador :) had a very comfortable stay. There is a beautiful well maintained small park right behind the hotel which has 4 fountains and an excellent paved walking trail, ideal to go on walks with your dog. The 2 king bedrooms / bathrooms with 3 TVs was extremely comfortable and clean. Kitchen had all the required utensils. This hotel is very close to good restaurants and the beaches. You need to drive a short distance to the beaches (cannot walk). Overall we had an awesome vacation in Clearwater and would definitely stay in this hotel again. Dog owners, make sure that you visit the great Pet Friendly beach at Honeymoon Island. Your dog will have a great time playing in the water and so will u !!
