“view was mesmerizing, service outstanding, loved it!!”

We checked into Cedar Cove stressed from our workdays and quicky unwinded. The staff went out of their way to accomodate us by switching to a room without stairs and did so with a friendly smile. the room was clean and comfortable. modern in decoration. we loved the gulf coast view and was mesmerized by the sunrise. pool was well kept and they have a restaurant that is one of the best i've ever eaten at. Cedar Key was different from anywhere i ever vacationed with it's warm welcome and rich history!! very unique place to get away from it all. i hear they have seafood festival every October, but i missed it by two weeks. I am already planning a trip back and will stay at Cedar Cove Beach and Yacht Club again!

“Tried to Stay”

We tried to stay here for an upcoming trip to Cedar Key. We are a family with a child who is two and a half. We were attracted by the pool and overall look of the hotel on various websites. Unfortunately when we tried to call to reserve a room, Brenda, was not friendly or family oriented. She stated that there was only one room left that was nonsmoking and that it was "very nice, with breakables and a jacuzzi tub" and therefore she felt not appropriate for a child. I reassured her that our daughter is surrounded by breakables and nice things at home and we would like the room, but she refused to reserve it for us. My husband and I offered to put a deposit down, etc but there was no flexability. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY!

“Yachts?? Beach??? Really....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2008

This is a neat place so forgive the name which is perhaps the ultimate in chutzpah. The "beach" at Cedar Key is a man made strip of sand until the tide goes out and reveals the marshlands that the area is really made up of. And the "yachts" all appear to be permanently glued to the self same mud in the tiny tidal basin which fronts the rooms. Well...some rooms do look over the beach. But it is FUN. Where else can you sit on your balcony at low tide and watch egrets, herons, pelicans and ibis within 30 feet of your window?? Modest but adequate rooms with kitchens run around $110 a night and if the kitchens are poorly stocked with pans etc you can get by. Given the dreadful choice of eating places locally you might want to use those pans at least some nights. Like all of Cedar Key this is not for fancy folks. And if you are olefactorily sensitive you might as well know....the mud SMELLS. Low tide is full of primordial reeks and the hotel staff have grown used to folks who think all oceans smell like Miami and check out. Cedar Key is what it is and so is its "Yacht Club". Not fancy, not Miami but a place where dolphins sport close in and the birds remind you that smelly places are real places.
