“No Welcome At This B&B”

Having travelled accross The US for 6 weeks we booked this B&B as a change from all the hotels we had stayed in, What a mistake, No welcome the house was in darkness, We then found a note with the keys to let ourselves into our room, This was after informing the owner we woulds be arriving before 6pm, could understand it if we had been late !! The room was dark damp and very cold over night not even a coffee maker in our room, the cusions on the bed were grubby. thank goodness we only booked 1 night. Breakfast the following morning, no choice just a cheese omlette with a wafer thin slice of ham and a frozen hash brown just put infront of us (not exactley the gourmet breakfast as advertised.)
we were not asked what we would like, the toaster was covered up with no bread on offer, also cereal was out but no milk. The owner turned up as we were about to leave, very obvious for the payment, when she saw that we had left most of our breakfast we then got an offer of a muffin, She explained when only 2 rooms were in use not everything was put out,But we were paying the same amount as if all rooms had been occupyed ,We found the area a delight but a bit run down a lot of properties and a hotel up for sale.Having run a B&B in England for nearly 30 years( must be doing something right)Perhaps Alice should come and see how its done in the U.K.

“charming B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We spent 2 nights here. The first night we stayed in Nanna's Room. It was attractively furnished but very small. We had to move the suitcase to exit the room. Otherwise, it was fine. We had left the possibility of staying another night open and did decide to do so. However, Nanna's room had become booked and we moved to the Honeymoon Suite. Alice was kind enough to give us a discount on the room. It was perfect - large, beautiful, private, quiet, just lovely. The property has a nice porch and yard to sit and relax in with a lovely view of two huge, old live oaks. The first morning we had a wonderful omelet. Had the hash browns been homemade and the ham slice better quality, it would have been perfect. The second morning was perfect with a Belgian waffle, fried egg, and sausage. There is a resident outdoor cat and a couple stayed with their 2 dogs. My husband kept his distance and his allergies were fine, however, though if you have allergies to animals, it might be a good idea to ask. The recommendations for supper and activities were spot on. We ate a wonderful meal at the Island Hotel and took a very nice boat trip up the Lower Suwanee River. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this B&B highly to anyone.

Room Tip: Go for the Honeymoon suite.

My wife and I stayed in Jack's Room #7. Perfect. Comfy bed. Stand alone bathtub. DVD player and TV. Complimentarty popcorn, juice and milk. And the cookies. Oh wow, the cookies. I had 3 every time I passed the jar. so good!! Drinks in the fridge (small fee). Breakfast was a huge waffle with eggs and sausage, plus toast and english muffins. Property was beautiful. Alice, the owner, is so sweet. Could not have been better.

“Cozy, comfortable, quiet Bed and Breakfast Retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My husband and I just returned from three days in Cedar Key at the Cedar Key Bed and Breakfast. Although Alice, the owner ,was not on the property when we arrived she did leave the room key and a helpful "orientation" sheet. Our room was cozy and very comfortable. The grounds are lovely and shaded by very old spreading oak trees. There are lots of places to sit and relax outside. Our room, the Honeymoon Suite, came with a private garden area to enjoy. Breakfasts were especially delicious and plentiful and it was a very short walk to town or to the water. We had not been to Cedar Key in twenty years but still found the area to be lovely with a definite "old Florida" feel. This continues to be a wonderful place to visit if you are looking for an opportunity to get away from it all. We ate at Tony's while we were there and did enjoy the clam chowder. We also had a lovely dinner at the island Hotel where we enjoyed hearts of palm salad and clams over pasta, two dishes the area is famous for. We would definitely recommend Cedar Key Bed and Breakfast as a quiet, comfortable place to stay. My only negative was that wireless internet was not available during our stay which was inconvenient for us at the time.

Room Tip: The Honeymoon Suite and the Treehouse are both stand alone which does provide more privacy. The othe...

“Peace and Warm Environment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My husband and I have been traveling to Cedar Key since 2003. Two years ago we opted for a different environment while on the Island and found the Cedar Key B and B through the Chamber of Commerce. Bill and Alice Phillips ~ along with their kind staff ~ were extremely inviting in person as well as creating an environment that caters with generosity of spirit to its guests . The peace of the establishment and the serenity of the grounds beckon to us each time we travel to Cedar Key, and we will continue to cross their threshold. We feel it is a "second home."
