“Beautiful resort with an excellent staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

What a great place to stay! My husband and I were able to spend one lovely night at this resort a couple of weekends ago and had a fantastic time. We only wished we were able to extend our vacation! The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are kept spotless and the views are stunning from all angles, from the first to the eighteenth floor.

There's a great restaurant for breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. We dined them all and enjoyed every bite. The tuna poke was fabulous and the hogfish was prepared perfectly. I'll definitely be craving those! The 'Nauti Mermaid' was a fun place to have a cocktail and enjoy the views, or to have a fun chat with the bartenders, who were very spirited and accommodating. The fire pit at night was fun too!

Walking along the marina while enjoying a scoop of gelato from their gelato shop (try the pistachio if they have it!) was romantic, and my husband was able to spot one of the biggest snook we've ever seen! Next time we'll definitely take advantage of their kayak or boat rentals...

The room we stayed in was big and beautiful, with floor to ceiling views of the bay. It was tastefully decorated with rich wood furniture, soft white linens and clean tiled bathrooms. Our room had a beautiful modern kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. We were ready to move in!

What more can I say?? This place is the place to stay! All of the staff that we encountered were pleasant and professional and we could not have felt more relaxed, unless of course we utilized the spa services :)

“Fantastic Staff and Accommodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We recently spent eight nights at the Resort and could not be more pleased with our experience.

Prior to our arrival, we received excellent service from Judith at the front desk including a return phone call after our arrangements had been made. Once we did arrive, we were greeted with a warm smile and a handshake from Perrie, the Bellman. Perrie is the epitome of what makes this place so nice. For the rest of our stay, we were addressed by name whenever we saw Perrie and truly felt at home. The entire staff would make eye contact and smile whenever we walked past.

As for the room, we had a two bedroom deluxe. It was over 2,100 square feet and luxurious. Granite counter tops, marble floors, stainless steel appliances, beautiful cabinets, big screen t.v. with HD, 2 1/2 baths, and two king bedrooms. We also had our own laundry room in our suite which allowed us to pack less. The view from our suite was awesome and we had a huge screened-in balcony to enjoy our meals or to just relax.

The grounds have a tropical feel with beautifully manicured lawns and palm trees that are lit at night for a nice display. The swimming pool is very warm, but not too warm, so even cold-sensitive people like my Wife and young Son enjoyed swimming in it. We had no issues with smokers around the pool or any of the common areas; however occasionally we would smell it coming from a nearby balcony. Not a big issue for us but I wish people could respect that this is a 100% non-smoking resort and that includes balconies.

We did not eat at the Marker 92 restaurant or the Nauti Mermaid, so I can't comment much except to say that they seemed to usually have a decent crowd. The shops were not much, just a few galleries, a couple of clothing shops, and a deli with limited provisions.

The resort is located at the tip of Cape Coral which is a bedroom community with a few restaurants and not much more. This was fine by us as we were there for relaxation and had a rental car (free parking or valet is available) so we made a few road trips throughout our stay. Cape Coral does have several nice parks including the nearby Rotary Park that is within walking distance from the resort. Rotary Park has a nice sized playground four young children as well as picnic tables, shelter, and BBQ grills. We made use of the free bicycle rentals from the resort to get there. We also rode the free boat shuttle to Fort Myers beach and had a great time.

I would love to return to the resort sometime in the future; however our Indiana family is expanding soon and it may be a while. Hopefully Perrie and the rest of the staff are there when we make it back.

Room Tip: Amazing views as long as you get a room above the third floor. Splurge for the two bedroom deluxe...

“Quiet resort with great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at the end of January and were very impressed with the size of the units. We were in a one-bedroom with a screened balcony the length of the unit. Bedroom and bath nicely appointed--good shower and two sinks. The bell staff were very helpful and we liked having a covered parking area and a place to store our bikes. Got a good price on our room and would recommend this as a good place to stay when on Cape Coral.

“Way Beyond our Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We booked our unit at this resort through Global Discovery Vacations. Since this was our first experience with them, we really didn't know what to expect. We didn't, however, expect perfection! This place was amazing! We thourougly enjoyed the quiet location, away from the craziness of Ft. Myers, yet close enough to activities to get there easily and quickly. Upon our arrival, the staff greeted us warmly and efficiently, and our inquiry as to the possibility of getting an upper floor unit resulted in us getting an 18th floor one. In fact, the entire staff went above and beyond the whole week we were there, cheerfully answering our questions and making suggestions based on our interests.

As we entered the unit, we were stunned at its size and luxury. The place was spotless. Stainless steel appliances and granite countertops were just like new. The kitchen was well furnished with everything we needed to cook during the week. The cookware and dinnerware was very nice, and there were complete sets as opposed to mismatched stuff.

The living/dining area was furnished with attractive pieces that showed no wear. Same for the bedroom. In fact, we could almost believe no one had ever been in this unit before.

The bathroom was huge and impeccably clean, with a separate dressing area - one sink in the bath, on in the dressing area.

The balcony, of course, was our favorite place. Our view from the top floor was incredible, and we spent countless hours there, enjoying our morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Even this area was spotless, which is really saying something. Usually, we find dirt, cobwebs, etc. on an open balcony, but not here. Sliding doors opened from both the bedroom and the living area.

The pool/spa area was beautiful and meticulously maintained, and we made good use of this relaxing area.

While wi-fi did not work in the units, there was free high speed internet connections, which worked fine.

I notice a review regarding problems with smokers. We are both very sensitive to smoke, but neither of us saw anyone smoking anywhere on the property, including the pool and outdoor restaurant areas the whole time we were there. I would be hard pressed to find anything negative to say about this resort, and we hope to return soon.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor room. It can't hurt!

“smokers rule”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

A beautiful setting, we had a one bedroom on the 18th floor with a great view of the river. I'm writing this review for the benefit of anyone who might be fooled by the "smoke-free building" description and the frequently mentioned environmental commitment. These "commitments" take a back seat to the main function of the property - to squeeze as much revenue as possible from the restaurant/bar area. The main pool and hot tub can be virtually unusable due to the clouds of cigarette smoke pouring from the adjacent outdoor restaurant/bar seating, even in the morning. On our first night, we tried to go into the hot tub at dusk only to find people smoking within a few feet of it. Since there actually were No Smoking signs where these people had stationed themselves, we complained at the desk. We were treated as if we were the problem and told directly "We don't tell people where they can smoke". I finally cut the vacation short since aching lungs, burning throat and a rasping voice are not my idea of a good time. It was a relief to get back home.
More generally speaking, the staff was uneven. Some were very nice, some clearly were annoyed by a simple request, such as asking for additional towels. With only one exception, the housekeeping staff did a superior job. There are also some problems with facilities maintenance. One (of only 2) exercise bikes was broken for our entire stay. The sauna never did work, my guess is that it never will, despite my bringing it to their attention. On our last night the power and water went out. Power came back in a few hours, but water never came back while we were there.

Management Team, Manager at The Resort at MarinaVillage, responded to this review

Dear wibgo b,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at The Resort at MarinaVillage. I apologize that your stay did not meet your expectations, thus causing you to cut your trip short.

Please note that we do take our Florida Green Lodging certification seriously and that smoking is banned in all interior places in the building so the interior is smoke free, but the exterior does have designated smoking areas. Two designated smoking areas are The Nauti Mermaid, as well as next to the pool. We sometimes do hear from our guests that they would like the entire property to be smoke free, but we are not, nor do we advertise that we are. I do apologize for the way you were spoken to by our staff when bringing to their attention that people were smoking in the non-designated areas. You have my word that I will work with my staff to assure this does not happen again.

The resort itself does not have a sauna, however I will bring it to the attention of the Community Clubhouse that both the sauna and bike are not working correctly.

The power outage occurred in the early morning hours and effected the entire southern portion of Cape Coral and was not localized to just the resort, however I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you during your stay.

We hope you will reconsider as it would be our pleasure to have you as our guest again sometime in the future.

Sincerely,
The Resort at MarinaVillage Management Team
