“Good and bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This property has done several things right: they hired nice staff, offer hot breakfast, have designated parking spaces for Priority Club members, provide a nice fitness facility and our room was clean. It is a short drive to several area restaurants. The downside is the location as it is situated next to I-95, a still-used train track and the area doesn't seem to be the safest. There are no fridges in the rooms and the double beds were creaky. The bathroom door did not want to stay shut and dragged along the floor - not easy to be quiet in the middle of the night. Some easy-fix suggestions for management: put small fridges in each room; offer ear plugs

“Outdated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

First impression is that the area this hotel in is not great. Could be walking distance (long walk) to the beach, but I wasn't comfortable walking through the area between it and the beach. Easy drive though, which worked out okay.
Rooms are in a building that is detached from the lobby, and is protected by a key panel lock. Really annoying to have to swipe the card to get into the building every time, even during the day, but probably a good idea considering the area.
TV in the rooms is at least 15 years outdated. Ridiculously old tube TV. Half the channels didn't even work. There was a sign in the halls that said they were replacing them, two days after we left. So that might not be an issue by the time you stay there, but it sucked for us.
Room was pretty clean, but needed some serious touch ups. Chunks of wall were missing by the baseboard in the room, and the bathroom. Stains on the floor of the bathroom, and some mold on the shower curtain.
The AC unit was also tragically outdated and was louder than a freight train. Absolutely impossible to sleep with it on, but the room got seriously hot with it off. No "auto" feature that would allow it to cool to temp then shut off. It was constant LOUD fan on, or off completely.
WiFi is free but the signal is TERRIBLE. Might as well have been dial up. Seems like they had several routers, as there were at least four signals, but they all sucked.
Soda machine in the room building charges $2 which is absurd, but the lobby has a little "store" that sells chips/soda/ice cream and prices in there were a little better.

We got a wedding group rate, so for what we paid, I guess it was worth it. If we had had to pay full price, I would have been pretty upset, and probably would have found another hotel after the first night.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to someone, but I also would say stay away. It's just meh, and if it's the cheapest hotel you can find, and that's what you're looking for, it's definitely inhabitable. We stayed four nights without any incident or real problem. Just would personally probably spend a little more and stay on the beach next time.

“very pleased”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I was very pleased with this HIE. It is located right off I95 with easy access. The room was clean and furnished well, the staff was helpful, and the breakfast was good.

“Would never stay here again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I have stayed at other Holiday Inn Express hotels in FL and this is by far the worst ever. I don't know how they get away with charging the rates they do. The hotel is in a very bad part of town and it is not secure at all. An extremely loud train goes barreling by about every three hours and it's impossible to sleep through. The hotel is in poor condition in that there are stains on the carpets in the hallways and rooms, the furniture and t.v.s are extremely outdated and there were literally holes and cracks in the walls in my room. The man at the front desk was nice and the breakfast was okay but I did not feel safe at this hotel. I will never stay here again, even if it was free.

“very disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Surprised by the positive reviews on here. Maybe the hotel has recently changed hands or something since those guests wrote reviews? We booked rooms and so did 2 other family members, and we all had a problem. Personally, I was in my room topless when someone from housekeeping knocked and then immediately keyed in. My parents' room reeked of cigarette smoke and they requested another room. My grandmother went to her room and initially found that it was someone else's room with their clothes strewn about and unmade beds. My parents also went to close their bathroom door and the handle fell off in their hands. Another time, we went to the pool in the middle of the day to find it locked. We went to the front desk and they said they would send someone over immediately to unlock it but after 15 mins of waiting we had to go back and ask again. We also were given a late checkout but ended up stranded outside of our rooms when our keys were deactivated at normal checkout time.
Definitely conveniently located right off the highway, but hard to sleep with the train whistles always coming through all night. Breakfast and fitness center were good.
Overall- not even close to worth the $100+/night we paid for the room... more like $35-$40. Even at that rate I don't think I would go again.

Room Tip: request poolside not streetside
